On reaching 80...

Happy Birthday John. I'll be 63 at the end of the month and can add only one more guideline: You boss always thinks he is smarter than you. If you "just have to" prove him wrong, start looking for self employment.

Wisdom and experience teaches that the boss isn't always right, but he is always the boss.

On reaching 80…

Tomorrow I will reach the age that is generally acknowledged as old. I will be 80.

Happy Birthday!

My definition of "Old" seems to keep expanding with every passing year. I too considered 80 as being old when I was a bit younger, but now that I will be 75 in a few weeks 80 doesn't seem that old. If I do reach that milestone I will consider it a great accomplishment.

In the past year I have lost a handful of friends, some younger than me, so for me to still be on the green side of the grass makes me feel blessed.

Being that you are now 100 years old minus 20, just look to your future with a smile and have a drink on us!

A "Don't"

Palidin;
I'd like to wish you a belated birthday. I would also like to add a "Don't" to your "Smarts" list. Don't ever Tease, "Poke Fun At", or "Devil", in any way your friends. It might give you great pleasure, but, it never gives pleasure to them. I lost almost every friend that I ever had, in doing just that. If you care to keep your friends, My "Don't" would help to keep them. That is a lesson learned "Too Late" in my 86 years, of learning.

John, First of all let me wish you a very happy 80th birthday. You sir are a class act and one of the reasons this forum is as good as it is. Your post holds a lot of truth and wisdom and is obviously the result of 80 years of living buy all the rules.

As a side note I think #1 is very true. I missed 3 of my first chances and have wondered ever since what if....Now 2 of them have passed away, one of them just a few days ago. I haven't seen two of them ;, since they were 17 years old, the other I see now and then because we have the same birthday but still, I wonder what if.....

Having said that I would like to emphasize that even if you do miss out on all your first chances there's still hope. I've been with Miss Pam for 48 years and now I'm reminded of the Garth Brooks song, "Unanswered Prayers".

After nearly half a century I still wake up every morning and reach out to touch her and I'm flooded with relief when I discover she's still there.

Again, happy birthday and here's hopin' for many many more!

I am 69, l will add:
1. Take care of yourself. If you enjoy good health, consider yourself blessed. Like a fine firearm, a motor vehicle or any piece of equipment, a body must be maintained. Abuse it, neglect it, and it will give out on you and replacements are not cheap-or easily obtained.
