OREGON LAW ALREADY CHALLENGED

I assume this measure is an imposition from the coastal urban areas on the "inlanders"? I have travelled a lot on business, but only made it to Oregon a few times.

Yes, mostly along the I-5 corridor. The reason gun sales have gone through the roof in Oregon for the last two years is b/c the cities--Portland especially--are no longer safe. The homicide rate in Portland has tripled in three years, almost entirely b/c of the demonization, defunding, and demoralization of the police. Rational citizens responded by purchasing firearms to protect themselves, since the police can't. Now the same clowns who made defensive weapons a necessity, are trying to make them impossible to acquire. Fine Oregonians "out in the state," but it's a cult along I-5.

Umm, no but I don’t think that’s what you actually meant.

It’s the large urban areas, (Portland Metro mostly.) The He/She/Them’s impose their views/interests on the rest of the state while these areas have declined to a dismal condition. It’s important for the ODL’s to have an “other” choice instead of just male or female but maybe that’s not unique to OR. (?)

Houston Rick, there actually are no big coastal cities in Oregon. The biggest cities are pretty much located along the I5 corridor. I live just outside of Oregon's largest coastal city. Population is around 16,000. Sadly (in this situation anyway) about 60% of Oregon's population is located in the greater Portland Metro area so they decide what the rest of the state does. I wish they did something similar to the electoral vote here.

We are in trouble folks, as this is becoming more common on so many things.
This whole "Let put it up for a vote and let the people decide" is not good.
We are a constitutional republic, meaning we elect representatives to vote and make laws for us, based on our founding fathers guide lines layed out in the constitution.
This whole democracy thing, where the people get together and ignore constitutional law is going to be our demise, and should be stopped.

You can thank the Warren Court for that. Most states used to be one chamber by population, one by land.

I was hoping someone else would post an update for all. Someone more eloquent and knowledgeable. Nope. I’ll do my best.

The Federal hearing today in Portland lasted two hours. The outcome was she, (the Judge,) will make her decision to temporarily block Measure 114 Monday or Tuesday of next week.

I’m encouraged a bit in that she stated that things have changed with the recent decisions in regards to the 2A. Unfortunately Tuesday means just two days before the Measure gets enacted.

Today there were over 6,000 waiting for an “instant” Oregon background checks. Obviously most sales have been halted, (so they have won that much.)

The Measure seems to be changing of course since it was passed before it was written. Today it seems AlL 10+ magazines would be banned to citizens while prior language had kinda a grandfather type clause.

The infamous "trees don't vote" decision. If applied to Congress would eliminate the US Senate.

I've been visiting Oregon for about 25 years and bought a home there in 2018 - just outside Grants Pass. This is very disappointing, considering I'm in the middle of moving all sorts of good stuff up there for next year's retirement.

Was there for Thanksgiving and the GP and Medford gun stores were almost empty. A backlog of about 25K background checks as of last Saturday.

I'm moderately positive the courts will put this mess on hold and ultimately reject it for what it is.

Yep. Essentially disenfranchised everyone not living in a big city.

Seems they forgot we're a republic where the minority is protected , and not a democracy where they majority runs the show.

Probably one of the worst decisions of the 20th century.

If no one in Oregon can buy a gun starting Dec 8th because there is no system in place yet, smells like a class action lawsuit, violation of constitutional rights.

Which as a state, no doubt having qualified immunity, Oregon will simply laugh off.

Thank you for posting that, it has greatly improved my education as to how the US got to where it is.

The UK went through a similar exercise in 1832 to reduce the influence of "Rotten Boroughs". The classic example was Old Sarum in Wiltshire, that had three houses and seven voters, yet returned two members of parliament.

Rotten and pocket boroughs - Wikipedia

Living in the Las Vegas valley I am acutely aware of its overbearing influence on the rest of the state. 74% of the population are here, and most have little to no clue as to how the rest of the state operates and wishes to live. That dog don't hunt for me.

The writing has been on the wall for some time in Oregon, regarding gun/magazine bans. The dumbs have been in control of the State for over 30 years, and has been moving left ever since. Then they vote to allow drugs such as meth and heroin to be legal, welcome the homeless with open arms at the taxpayers expense, then the schools started putting tampon machines in the boys bathrooms. I had enough of that BS, and was fortunate enough to move to western Montana 6 months ago after living in the Hillsboro/Forest Grove area for over 50 years. Such a beautiful State, but run by idiots.....

On one of the Hannity programs there was discussion about Colorado and no one knew why it had become a blue state. I know why.

I had lived in Colorado for around 5 years, I moved out of Colorado 27 years ago. At that time folks were complaining that Californians were moving into Colorado at the rate of, I believe 15,000+ per month due to high crime and tax rates.

The complaint at that time was Colorado did not have the infrastructure to support in mass influx of people and that they were bringing the crime
with them.

It only took 10+ years to convert a Conservative State to a Liberal State.

There is a lesson here with people migration.

People migration WILL bring their values and beliefs with them; no question about that - it is a fact one can easily see from past history.

Arizona has became Liberal state with the 2022 election and will be a solid Liberal state within 10 more years.

Texas will follow shortly thereafter.

Florida will also fall to Liberalism within 20 years.

For those of you who say that could never happen, like I once did, look at World History.

Unfortunately, I think you're 100% correct...

I confess the action by the Oregon Supreme Court surprises me. I would have expected them to be dyed in the wool liberal idiots. It is just barely possible that they understand what Bruen means and don't intend to look conspicuously stupid in public. That would be nice.
