I read yesterday stock in gun mfrs has dropped (except S&W) since the bill to extend background checks to private sales failed.

The article mentioned public support for more gun control has declined.

Could this be the beginning of the end of the insanity?

Not likely. Most of the agenda-driven, progressive Senators and law makers have already stated they aren't done shoving gun legislation down our throats. It isn't about the stock market, public sentiment, reducing crime or saving lives, "the kids" or whatever cause they think will gain the most traction at any given time. At one time or another all of these um..."public servants" have uttered the words "confiscation". That is the ultimate goal of the progressive movement. They are willing to get there by baby steps.

To think we are not in for a long, tiring onslaught of public attacks, misleading publicity, limits, rules, taxes, fees, executive orders, over-reaching states and most likely; federal laws against 2A is grossly underestimating their resolve and tactics and is tragically naive.

They have just begun.

May I see a show of hands of those who think prices will return to pre-Feeding-Frenzy levels?

Anyone?

No?

Me either. We'll continue to be shafted, though possibly not quite as fiercely.

But I don't believe for a minute that the Second Amendment will be repealed.

With the Chinese Fire Drill known as the U.S Congress I don't think that things are going to settle out to anything formerly known in the past. I was able to purchase (5 boxes limit) of Tula 223, two box limit of 9mm and one box limit of Federal 500 rd bulk pack of .22's Friday from my LGS. It's going to be this way for quite some time. EBR's are still very pricey.

Maybe not prices we saw before, but more reasonable. But then I'm not into modern military-style rifles and don't pay much attention to their pricing.
There will nearly always be gun-hating "progressives". Its not Polyanna sentiment to be encouraged to see even left-of-center Senators recognize that gun-control is a losing issue.
Of course, I live in the still mostly-free state of Texas and not a Peoples Republic

Wait till supplies start arriving to stores. I'm already seeing panic in the secondary market; people posting on local boards where they never had before. I've also seeing sporting rifles coming down to near pre-panic prices. I would hate be to one involved in reselling ammo. The market is competitive and you still have buy all the stock you can find or risk losing a lot of money. A lot of people are going to lose their shirts this time.

There is going to be many new gun owners who are still desperate to get ammo but don't want to pay reseller prices. I see it in the reloading section. The reloading section has a lot of new people asking questions but don't have the supplies.

It still going to competitive with all the new gun owners but I believe the secondary market is going to die. I say give it two months or so.

What about the big Govnt ammunition order?

1.6 Billion is a tall order, even if for 5.56, .40, and 9mm.

Based on whats Ive read, there are only so many suppliers of raw material, and production equipment for ammunition manufacturing.

Assuming the Govnt order will be broken up (per the RFQ) many think it still may may cause production shortages in the commercial market.

Believe it or not, in my area you couldn't find a box of 9mm ammo anywhere. Yesterday, one of my local stores had a shelf full of them. Boy was I surprised. Maybe things will start loosening up a little.
