I had one for a few years but sold it. Shot pretty well! I didn't much like the flimsy feel of the moon clips for 357 though. I decided I liked my 6 shot, 5" 27-2 better, and if I want to load faster, I'll use a speed loader. Hope it works out for you.

I asked the Pro Shop/FFL at our range/club to order this gun for me 4 years ago. When I opened the box, I was stunned and still have not recovered. It has replaced my 686 Pro Series SSR as my best handgun. It is magnificent, perfectly controllable in DA with .357 ammo. Have never used the moon clips, did not even know they were in the box. No ignition problems. There are those of us on this forum who believe the 8-shot .357 N-Frame concept is the greatest thing since sliced bread. And we are correct!

I have one and it has become one of my favorites. I shoot it often and it is extremely accurate. The 8 round moon clips are the bomb! No it is not pinned or recessed. Yes it does have the dreaded lock and those fragile MIM parts but that does not have any affect on the accuracy or the joy of putting 8 rounds on target shooting double action.

I have 2 of them, one for iron sight and one for red dot. I use them regularly in competition, and they are 2 of my favorite guns in the stable. I use the moonclips with 38 Short Colt and have very fast reloads, close to the speed of the 625 reloads. For fast reloads of any caliber, you have to use fully round nose bullets, not round nose flat point, hollow point, etc.. Any amount of flat will want to hang up and be a problem.

I'm using Starline brass with TK Custom moonclips for Starline. The groove in the rimmed cases is not specified by SAMMI, so every brand just does their version. You have to be specific about which brass you want them to fit. It pays to buy the best moonclips for rimmed calibers. The TK ones are about $6 each. With Starline brass, the 38 Short Colt, 38 Long Colt, 38 Special, and 357 Mag all have the same groove, so the same moonclip fits all of them.

The moonclips for rimless are thicker and a lot less finicky about what brass will work. For instance, with 45 ACP, you can get Ranch Products moonclips at $40 for 100 and they work fine with just about any brass.

I have one and shot it frequently in some outlaw matches with some success. I also had Pinnacle High Performance fit another cylinder chambered in 356 TSW so it can shoot 9mm, 38 Super and others.

One of my favorite revolvers

These are fantastic guns! Mine is my favorite and the one I just enjoy shooting. Mine isnt the Pro Series per se but it is the Performance Center version and the DA in this thing is un freakin believable. Its incredibly smooth and light yet it always sets off any round, and I pretty much only shoot my reloads. I use cci, federal, winchester, s&b, wolf and any other primer called for and have yet to get a light strike. Im assuming the factory springs are still in it.
I love a big N frame, and a big N frame 357 with 8 holes is a mean machine that I dont worry about shooting alot of magnums in. I can say Im crazy about the barrel profile but it has grown on me. It has the lock and it the only S&W I have with one, but I couldnt pass it up and Im glad I didnt, lock or no lock, its a great gun. Also, jist because it says "Pro" series or Performance Center on it dont mean jack mine did have just about the worst factory crown Ive ever seen, I mean it was shameful. I had to fix it myself. The barrel is a shade over torqued too but it doesnt seem to be a detriment to the accuracy because it is that, and besides, I cant fix that myself.
I put a Dawson FO front on mine too, best FO sight out there. I very rarely use the moons though and dont see any difference in anything. They can be a timesaver though when I remember to load them. It shoots jist fine with or without them.
Youll love it, theyre awesome 357's.

I've also got a 627Pro 4" and like it quite a bit. It may be about my largest handgun and doesn't get carried much. I don't reload and ammo is a bit expensive lately, therefore, I haven't been shooting it much.

Checking my records, I've got ~5600 rounds through it, mostly with .38Special.

I almost ordered one but I live in Southern California and it is hard to find a gun shop that will order anything. They don't want someone calling them every week asking if their order came in. The one shop I found who was willing to place an order for a PS627 for me said it might be six months or more than a year before S&W shipped them one. Even the big shops don't stock those, at least not anywhere I have seen. When another shop had a S&W seven shot 686+ available, and willing to give me a deal for $850 cash out the door, that was good enough for me. Maybe someday I will get a 627.
