Hey guys just traded my buckmark for this 1987/1988 ish Model 41 5.5". Just had a question on slide to barrel fit, not sure if this was a period thing or if something has been replaced in mine. Fit isn't like I see in photos online.

Looks like the slide has rounded cuts and the barrel has a square cut

The steps on your barrel would be a perfect match for my 2016 vintage Model 41. I'm not sure, but I think you have a mismatch with a newer barrel and older frame.

My Model 41 that shipped on June 20, 2016.

Welcome to the Smith & Wesson Forum!

Well that kind of sucks. I'm sure it shoots fine, but the barrel does seem to have older stamping on the right side. I believe the new ones just say 22 long rifle

I was just hoping it would be an unmolested one. The box it came with said 5.5" barrel so it's not like someone shot out the original long one and went to a shorty. I think I got a good deal, just bummed a bit. It definitely doesn't look like the fit I would expect from a $1,000+ gun

As long as the action closes all the way, without any interference, and functions properly, you're probably good to go. It might be interesting to do some searching and see if some older barrels actually more closely match the profile of your barrel; more rounded.

Best of luck with your new Model 41. I love mine! :)

Better photos after a clean. It's not that bad but I'm OCD. Also noticed it has a magazine disconnect (won't fire with no mag). Do they all have this? Doesn't bother me just curious.

Cleanneon98 Welcome to the Forum. Those grips look like a older set due to the dark color of them. What are the serial No's on the left side of this gun. That will tell us a lot about this gun by itself.

I have three model 41's, the oldest from 1959 and the newest is TAL series only a year earlier than yours. All of them have the same rounded slide and the bevel on the barrel identical to yours.

The model 41 has the magazine disconnect. It can be removed but I wouldn't consider doing that on mine.

Get some CCI SV and you'll soon find out your pistol is far more accurate than you are! Over a rest, mine will shoot inside 1" at 25 yards but don't ask how well I do offhand because it would be very embarrassing for me!

It's TBC9303. The gun shop guy said it was probably a 1987/early 1988.

Thanks for the info. I typically shoot Aguila standard becolity out of my Savage MKii rifle and it groups almost as well as CCI mini Mags, just for half the price. I'll be trying a few loads through this. Encouraged to hear that my gun may after all be all original. I still think it was a one owner piece.
