Anyone using these at home? I need something that my fiance can easily and quickly upon but her 12 year old son cannot. Under $100 preferred unless what you own is exceptional, first baby on the way I'm told I need to start saving money.

I'm itching to buy one of these: ShotLock 1911 Solo-Vault since I already have the shotgun model and have been impressed and happy with it.

Made in USA, no batteries, reasonable price; only slightly above your listed price limit.

Gunvault makes several different models. One should fit your needs.

I have two bolted to the top of my dresser. (old dresser).

They just made a change which they now use a nine volt battery instead of AA batteries. There is also a key override in the case the battery dies.

Gun and Pistol Safes by GunVault | GunVault

Yeah, they are really sweet. The cheapest one that I like is 150, I don't want the bio metrics fingerprint scan. I wonder if there's any companies that make one less expensive that has all those features. Especially how it let's you know if someone was trying to get in. Awesome.

Wow amazon has them for nearly $100 cheaper than the main site. You guys may be on to something here.

Edit.. The reviews are extremely sketchy regarding the buttons not working and Safes opening on their own... Hmm

Unfortunately, every pistol box that I know of that is battery operated is made overseas. My first Gunvault lasted about 7 years until the circuit board went out. I can still open with a key.

The Shotlock uses no batteries. It is strictly mechanical and it will last longer. But I don't care for the way they mount as far as the pistol box. The shotgun setup is nice.

With pistol boxes, you get what you pay for.

Here is another good one. Amazon.com : American Security Products PB3 Handgun Security Safe : Gun Safes : Sports & Outdoors@@AMEPARAM@@http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/41T2uRH8iGL.@@AMEPARAM@@41T2uRH8iGL

But if I recall correctly, it beeps when the buttons are pushed and I don't think it can be disabled. I don't like my buttons to beep.

I wouldn't want my buttons beeping either. This is proving more difficult than I anticipated. Looking at the sentry safe models now.

You will need to up your budget a little for a quality handgun safe that uses the mechanical push button locks. Usually these lock boxes are made in the USA and are made of heavier steel than the Chinese made electronic ones. I agree with the above that you get what you pay for. With the mechanical ones, you will pay more, but it will probably last you a lifetime. If you do have a lock failure, the lock can be replaced. You can't buy replacement components for any of the electronic ones that I am aware of.

Before purchasing one of these, you may want to do some online research (YouTube) and see how easily defeated most, if not all, of these smaller lock box-type safes are.

If your kid wants to get to the gun and has internet access, well...these boxes are about useless.

That's a big NO to Sentry.

Pistol boxes aren't supposed to be ultra secure. They are meant to be quick and convenient. Save up for the Gunvault.

I also have one of these. Amazon.com : V-Line Top Draw Security Case (Black) : Gun Safes And Cabinets : Sports & Outdoors@@AMEPARAM@@http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/51unmp9SW9L.@@AMEPARAM@@51unmp9SW9L

Mechanical combination. No beeps. Cost a little more but well worth it.

Thank you all for the replies! This is what I went with even though it exceeded my price range. If your interested take a look at the Amazon reviews, you tube videos, etc.. I didn't care for the biometric fingerprint scanner until I saw others trying to get in and it refusing them multiple times. It also has the push button just in case of emergency the finger print scanner wouldn't read and I'll always have the physical key lock extremely hidden somewhere nearby the safe. I watched many videos and read many many reviews without failure.

Her 12 year old son will be hunting this year, I taught him the fundamentals and importance of safety and he's doing well with it. I truly don't believe he would grab a screwdriver and hammer and start hacking away at it. He looks up to me and knows safety is the number one priority , pretty proud so far.

If anyone wants I'll try to keep up with this post to let everyone know if I can ever get it to fail or read someone's prints that are not permitted.

Edit, I forgot to mention that amazon automatically deducted 15% off for some reason on this. Total came to 160 instead of 200. Might be a fathers day limited time deal.

Also the said safe meets the California DOJ standards. If anyone finds anything negative about the safe I ordered please let me know.

The sentry safe has ready exceeded my expectations. I would not however ever buy just a biometric safe without a backup keypad. If your finger is wet or sweaty it does not read well but the keypad is right there as well for quick open. If your hands dry it has worked every time for both me and my fiance. If it breaks or stops working ever, I'll update.

I'm going to try and reprogram our fingerprints a little better to see if I can get it working every time if hands are wet
