This was one of our favorite places t go, Holy Cross City.
This was back before the Army Corp of Engineers filled in the mud bog just prior to the city and before the town was blocked off. We camped in the city a few times. It was an awesome road from Gold Gulch to Holy Cross.

The local Lisu people refer to this as "1,000 turtles praying to the sun," or, "the 1,000 turtle mountain." To get there, you climb about 2,700 steps carved with wide treads and low risers directly into the red sandstone that comprises this butte. And, if you look closely at the left mid-ground in the photo above, you'll see an empty bottle of Tsing-tao beer left there by some total jerk.
