SWMBO. Obey or else. It is never wise to get on the bad side of a gal who is a mixture of Cajun and Mexican and can have a temper. LOL

Out hiking yesterday, I stumbled across this little tree stump. Stumbled, literally...wasn't looking where I was going, too busy staring up at the sky and trees, daydreaming I guess.

Anyway, does anyone else see a cat's face in the wood? Or maybe even an owl? Or is it just me?

Looks kinda familiar.

There are always interesting things to see in the woods, if you just take the time to notice them. Maybe they're only interesting to certain people, or certain types of people, but interesting nonetheless. I suppose I'm one of those people.

I spotted (no pun intended) some rocks like this one on my hike today. It has an unusual pattern on it. No, I don't know what it is or what made the pattern. There are several other large rocks in the same general little area that are marked like this. They're all within maybe 25 or 30 yards of each other, but I haven't seen them in any other areas of these woods. And they're all within 100 feet of a pond, but not at all close to the water.

Most of the spots are sharply defined with a dark border, almost as if someone had used a Sharpie or something to outline them.

Anyway, I photographed it, as you see here. The photograph might enlarge a little if you click on it.

That stone reminds me of one I found on a beach in Costa Rica years ago.
It is grey porous rock embedded with small white pearl like spheres. Some have fallen out of the rock and left an indentation. I think that the softer grey
rock material wore faster in the surf and some of the "pearls" came loose. The rock is about 2.5" long and the "pearls" about 1/8" dia. There were many along the beach, it is near a volcanic area maybe some sort of Lava?

Yours looks even more interesting than mine. "My" rock looks to be about 18-20 inches long and maybe 9 inches wide. Or vice versa, whichever way you're looking at it. Maybe I should measure it. And some of the others.

The spots/markings on the rock I photographed don't protrude above the surface, and they won't fall off or out. They seem to be almost etched into the surface.

Looks like the rock was originally sediment (sand), in which pebbles were embedded. Now all turned to stone and worn away by the elements over eons of time.
