Burg Eltz...

There are about 20,000 castles in Germany, in various states of preservation.

Some are ruins, preserved today as historical sites. Some have been damaged or destroyed and then rebuilt (often more than once). Some are historical sites, owned by the government and maintained as museums. Some have been converted to other uses, such as hotels or concert venues.

Burg Eltz is one of the very few castles in Germany that is in original condition...undamaged for almost 900 years. And it has been owned by the same family that entire time...for 33 consecutive generations.

I've been there four times, most recently three months ago. It's just magnificent. My photos can't do it justice...the website is just great. :)

Nice digs they got there.

We're castle fans also. An interesting castle experience is staying at the hostel in Nuremberg. It's part of the castle complex which dominates the walled city from a hilltop. We've based ourselves there to visit the famed Christmas market in town.

The shape of things to come. General Dynamics won a 1.1 billion dollar contract to provide the USA with it's first "light" tank since the Cold War.
It's half the weight of the Abrams Main Battle Tank.

I have to wonder if Compact tank parking only signs will pop up in the motor pool. THAT LIGHTWAY IS A LONG WAY from an M3 Stuart of WW2.

There’s a Volcano Plug in NW NM called Cabazon.
Big Head in Spanish.
Native Folks say it belonged to a Giant slayed over by Mount Taylor.
Others say it represents the Devil looking up from the underworld.
You can see it if you get North of town and up high.
I shot this from Placitas, NM with my longest Lens.
About 42 miles away.
And then it hit me - what I forgot to tell you folks.
Cabazon is clearly seen in the Movie -
The Hired Hand.

This was at the Go Fish Education Center in Perry GA. A mechanized, motorized fish on wheels? I liked the creativity.

These were the door pulls for the building at the Go Fish Education Center.

This was at a general store that specializes in sausage. Made with indoor/outdoor carpet.

Sad to see them just rot away like that. :(

Show up with a trailer and some Benjamin’s , I expect you can take it home.
This is in a slightly weird little Village of San Fidel , NM. The world done gone on and left it alone. It’s On Old Route 66 About 15 miles East of Grants.
It Never actually amounted to much anyway, then it tapered off!
Anyway, it’s morphed into a Car Cemetery.
There are Several locations there with multiple vehicles.
How bout that Packard? Bet you still can get a Water Pump for it down at Auto Zone! Not!

Just the other day I made a run up to the Valle Caldera.
It’s nice and green, not a Elk anywhere.
Several thousand Elk live around there. Later a bunch will be at the Caldera. But not now!
But Walt Longmire’s is still and I shot it from afar.
It the one on the left.
