Range Bag Contents?

Mine is obviously stocked for S&W rimfire revolvers - a 10" scrap of 1"x2" wood for tapping the ejector rod when my K22 or pre-34 is unknowingly used with ammo it can't eject without serious assistance.

Mine has ammo, thumbtacks, UpLula, loaded magazines - empty on the way home, a multi tool, extra ear plugs. If I need anything other than the multitool to work on a gun (it has happened a few times) it just doesn't get shot any more that trip. There are others to choose from.

First aid kit resides in the vehicle which is only a few steps away while shooting at the club. I also keep a towel, wipes, bug spray, sunscreen, and an "emergency stash" of ammo in the vehicle in case I've forgotten to bring a caliber or have run out and still want to shoot a bit more.

The bag itself is a cheapie made by LA Police Gear. LA Police Gear Jumbo Bail Out Bag Low price, but decent quality.

I have 4 range bags.

The fourth is gun and caliber specific.

The rest, just useful stuff.

I only have one gun, a 642-1. My range bag is just a basic backpack.

Contents:

Ear and eye protection
Rag
Screwdriver
Masking tape
8.5x11" notebook (sheets used for targets)
3x5" and 4x6" blank mailing labels (also used for targets)
Small notebook (for writing down notes)
Tape measure
Whatever ammo I plan on shooting
A couple of speedloaders
Dark Angel pocket trauma kit (gloves, tourniquet, Cellox gauze, duct tape, plastic wrap can be used as an occlusive dressing)

Without opening it and looking, here's what I can remember:

Hearing and sight protection.
Targets.
Staples and staple gun.
Screwdrivers.
Allen wrenches and Torx wrenches.
Band-aids.
Spotting scope.
Batteries.
Bean bags.
Wood dowels.
Plastic hammer.

My wife carries the same stuff to
the YMCA child care she works :D

you forgot knitting needles and duct tape...

My range bag is a canvas tool bag I got on sale from Home Depot when my Dad worked there. Among all the odds and ends I have in it are:

Bag of foam earplugs
Shooting glasses
Stapler and box of staples
Silicon cloth
Rem Oil wipes
Various screwdrivers
Binoculars
Felt tip pen
Bandages
Brick of .22lr
Assorted speedloaders and a 1911 mag
Ziplock bags

Other stuff comes and goes based on what I'm shooting, but the stuff listed above is always in it. The bandages have come in handy more than I care to remember.

In use a large MidwayUSA range bag that usually contains the handguns I'm shooting, mags, a few hundred rounds of ammo (pistol and for rifle slung across my back), small bag for member ID card for range, shooting glasses, and ear plugs, small tools for adj of any sights depending on what guns I'm shooting, ear muffs (I usually double-up, plugs and muffs), plastic bags for any spent brass I'm collecting or reloads. Lastly, small and large paper plates as targets.

I have three bags now:
  • Shotgun related stuff
  • Rifle and pistol related stuff (including training tools)
  • Magazines

Yes, the quantity of mags has become large enough to require their own bag. In fact, it's too small and I need something else.

If I may hijack a little, I'm in need of a new bag for my shotgun stuff. I'm a clays shooter and the zipper on one of the side pockets is broken. So, I need a new bag. Can someone recommend something?

I'm disappointed. I was hoping to use your rifle/pistol list to see what I wasn't thinking about (not kidding, either).

I use a "gym bag" as my range bag. This is what is almost always in it when I go to any range:
2 Pistols (.22LR & 9mm) in padded & zippered pistol cases
5 .22LR magazines
3-5 9mm magazines
Ammo (min 250 rds_.22lr & min 100 rds_9mm)
2 x 2 speedloaders (.22R and 9mm w/backups)
Shooting glasses (1 clear, 1 yellow/amber that both fit over my eyeglasses)
2 Ear muffs (electronic and non-electronic/backup)
Batteries for electronic ear muffs
Foam earplugs (yes, I double muffle)
Targets
Masking tape
2 clothespins
Regular ink pen
Felt tip pen
Mechanical pencil
Notebook
4 inch ruler
Ziplock bags
Rag
Bandanna
Cleaning kit rod (to remove round stuck in chamber)

Ammo can usually left in car with the following:
Cleaning kit
Multiple screwdrivers
Regular pliers
Needlnose pliers
Allen wrench set
Plastic hammer
Stapler and staples (gets transferred to range bag for use at an outdoor match/range)
Newspaper
Rags

Couple ear muffs
Few sets of foam ear plugs
Couple pairs shooting glasses
Stapler(get tired of the range ones attached to hunks of 4x4)
Shoot n See target sheets
Ammo in boxes and clips
Pair of PAST recoil pads
Notepad and pen

I have two. One is always packed and has tools and extras (staples, clothespins, earplugs, dots, etc) and things like flashlight, compass, sunglasses, knife. I keep this in the trunk in case I need something. The other is outing specific with the things I need that day: ammo, targets, stapler, extra mags. I also put extra ammo in bag 1 in case I decide to spend some more time.

OK, here's what I carry in my pistol/rifle/instructor bag:

  • UpLula
  • SAE Allan Wrench set
  • Metric Allan Wrench set
  • Leatherman Pocket knife with screwdriver and 4 bits
  • 1911 Bushing wrench
  • 3/32" Punch
  • 1/16" Punch
  • 1/8" Punch
  • 10-8 Performance Armorer tool
  • Leatherman MUT with scope wrench
  • Triangle machinists file
  • AR Castle nut wrench
  • Itty Bitty Allan wrenches for optic adjustments and turret removal/tightening
  • Ball point pen - black ink
  • 2 big Sharpie pens - black
  • T10 Torx screwdriver
  • Multi-bit screwdriver - #1, #2, #3 Phillips bits, small and large flat head bits, T15 Torx bit, square drive bit.
  • Shooboy Mini Range Midnite-Pro with brass and stainless steel heads - Delron on handle end
  • Clip board
  • Targets printed on 8.5"x11" paper
  • Mechanix gloves - 1 pair
  • 2 extra pairs of safety glasses
  • Q-Tips - a bunch
  • Mags for .22s - Sig 1911-11 and Ruger Mark II, III (these are the ones I always forget so I just leave them in there)
  • Mags for 1911 (favorite gun, no need to remove)
  • Mil-Dot Master
  • Staple gun (Milwaukee, best I've ever seen and I've gone through a bunch)
  • Staples for staple gun
  • 100' tape measure
  • Electronic Range finder (new addition)
  • Otis bore cleaning cable
  • Swabs (if I'm gone for more than a day, I take a variety of cleaning stuff, but not all the time. The cable lives in the bag though.)
  • Hearing aide batteries for electronic hearing protection (SportEar)
  • Variety of rubber ear plugs
  • Large bag of foam ear protection (someone always forgets)
  • Pocket Pro II shot timer
  • Bosch laser measuring tape
  • Storm Tactical notebook (this bounces between this bag and my shooting mat. I'm not sure which place is better for it.)

Yes, I take all this stuff every time I go shooting. It all fits in this bag: LA Police Gear Jumbo Bail Out Bag and I still have room to add whichever guns I want to take. I just like to be prepared. A medium sized first aid kit stays in the truck 24/7.

You asked so, there it is.

My shotgun bag has more stuff, but you guys don't care about that.
