Range bag help

I've been through a range of bags, expensive and cheap. They wear out. Period. For the past few years, I've been using a backpack with a laptop compartment. The laptop compartment holds by 357 mag in a sleeve perfectly. The bag is large enough for me to stack ammo boxes in the bottom. The pockets on the front hold my eye/ear protection. The other handguns I carry fit just fine on top of the ammo. I especially appreciate the should straps. Makes hiking from the parking lot to the skeet range a breeze.

No:D I got one of those also, the smell of the Chinese PVC almost killed me when I opened it. I threw it away.

Thanks for the chuckle Rule3! :)

I guess it's better the NRA put their dollars into 2A defense and the educating of those low information folks amongst us than on "give-away swag"!

I regrettably realize that most stuff we get here is made somewhere else. It's sad. :(But that free NRA bag was one step up from the plastic plastic bag it came in. It literately did have toxic fumes. It was as cheap as they come. I look for quality Chinese stuff.

As another Coach bag fan no I bet they don't OTOH there are some really nice leather cases out there that would work as well. I'm also looking for a range bag, problem is the ones I in like in leather are way above my budget at this time.

Frequent trips to the thrift stores can yield up some surprising trasures. :D

I bought a range bag from Academy (it's $5 cheaper in the store) - Marksman Range Bag that I really like. I can store my separate pistol case in the center pocket area, two earmuffs & my Fobus dual mag holster on one of the side pockets, and my Fobus M&P holster & three pair of range glasses on the other side pocket. It also has a nice size pocket in the inner pocket for used brass. Then I use a Amazon.com: Galati Gear Deluxe Pistol Case: Sports & Outdoors@@AMEPARAM@@http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/41x7-No7HAL.@@AMEPARAM@@41x7-No7HAL to carry my pistols, magazines, and 250-350 rounds of ammunition. The Galati bag will hold 2-3 pistols, 8-10 magazines, and a bunch of ammo in the side pocket. It fits perfectly into the center pocket area of the Academy bag. If you want to use the pistol hard cases then the middle pocket on the Academy bag will hold two perfectly.

I Bought a Stanley Fat Max Tool Bag at Walmart for less than 20 bucks. Has a hard plastic bottom, lots of pockets on the outsides, pockets that fit magazines on the interior on one side, loops on the other. I usually have my guns in a cheap rug inside. Cheaper, but Probably not as nice as a true range bag but has lasted for a 1.5 years with no probs. even used it as a rest for my AR to sight it in, and some long range revolver shooting and I don't have to feel guilty about abusing an expensive bag.

But I'm also a cheap *** who needs the $$ for Ammo!

Here's mine. Galati Int'l. Made of ballistic nylon and I LOVE IT. It is a generous size but my favorite feature is the floor plan. I has removable partitions in the main compartment that attach inside with velcro and allow you to carry up to 4 handguns. You can remove and relocate the partitions to suit your needs. Plenty of room for ammo, hearing protection, binoculars, small tool set, targets, magazines, speed loaders, etc. I'm bettin' it was designed by a person that goes to the range and knows what a good range bag needs.

Edit to add: I would also like to mention that I've used this bag hard and not always in ideal conditions since Christmas of '04. One thing that always wears out or breaks on every range bag I've had is the zipper(s). The zippers on this bag are super tough and still just a s smooth as they were when they were new. And ballistic nylon seems to be impossible to wear out.

Another source is a flight bag from Sporty's Pilot Shop. The pocket for my headset would accommodate those over-the-ears hearing protection devices perfectly.

I posted my recommendations atleast three times in other threads on range bags... made in the USA tactical range bags, and got no response. If you're looking for something that will outlast you and the next 2 generations at a fair price, then look up my posts.
