Really Cheap Beer

I did n ot know that.

Busch is what we call "fishing beer" down here. It's good for hydration, doesn't fill you up and as long as the sun is hot and you are peeing regularly, the toxins don;t build up and the headache and hangover are minimal to non existent.
Not much of a beer drinker these days-puts the weight on wayyyy too fast.

Don't drink much beer any more. When I do, it's Genesee. Started drinking it in the Army, kept some on hand ever since.

How many varieties do they need to make?
Just goes to show the truth in the old saying "If at first you don't succeed try, try again".

Is it time for them to mix all the leftover in the vats together for the "Seasonal Blend"?

For the last 30 years they have been very successful offering all their blends to the public, so I would guess as a business, someone in that organization has an idea what consumers will purchase.

SAM (NYSE) $229.54

Sort of like the S&W of beers;), different calibers vs different blends.

Hamm's was my first beer at 12 when my parents sent me to farming relatives for the wheat harvest (late 70's). By late afternoon/early evening the beer started following as the cutting for the day ended and trucks were off to the co-op. For the past decade, I have been a craft beer guy...drinking mainly IPA's and DIPA's. But I do once in a while buy some Hamms or PBR when it's time to wash/wax the car...or when I want a red-beer.

Sam does a good job, but awhile back I moved 200 mi north. Have to support the Maine economy now.

Not having any trouble with that either. :D

I do keep a bunch of PBR on hand for surprise visits of folk with a less discriminating palate. Ballantine shows up now and then too. Have quite a pile of puzzle caps. Some take awhile to solve.

I haven't seen Hamms beer in ages here but did love their old TV ads. I never cared for it much though as PBR was the rage when I was younger.

Once on a trip to Canada in my sailboat my buddy and I brought back 21 cases of Canadian beer. We'd have bought more but were out of money and had to carry it a mile back to the boat. It's much better and stronger than what they used to import here. We sure were heros with our buddies back here and had plenty of company to help us drink it too.

I'd never heard of Hamm's until I went into the Navy. I was stationed at NTC San Diego and was enjoying my first liberty after completing basic training. I had a friend from boot camp who was from SD and his brother, a Marine Captain stationed in Nam had a house with a pool and my buddy had the keys to it. It started with four of us from the same boot company. Then some of his friends started showing up, a couple of them with an iced down trash can full of Hamm's Draft. The cans were shaped like little barrels. I didn't like them at first but after five or six they started to taste pretty good. "Ladies" and more beer showed up and I was told later that I had a pretty good time. I woke up the next morning in a dark garage in the back seat of a 57 Chevy with a definite two. I was probably a one to her.

I haven't had any Hamm's since then. They don't sell it around here. I like Yuengling when I can get it and Michelob Ultra when I can't.

I used to love Hamm's when I could get it, & Stroh's also. I'm not sure why anyone would consider Hamm;s "swill", maybe because they are part of Millers now, & the description "swill" definitely comes to mind when I think of Miller's.

We used to like Little Kings out of Cincinnati and would drive from St. Louis to KC to buy Coors because it wasn't distributed east of KC. I got razed once for bringing Olympia to a party but it was all I could afford. Now that I have to be gluten free cheap beer is out of the question. Omission makes the best GF lager that I have found. Sorghum beer tastes like flat horse piss and I can't stand hard cider. Thank God for the gift of distillation!

When out I like IPA's on tap. My cheap beer at home is Extra Gold, 30 pack for $13.95. Made by Coors, they used to advertise it, not anymore. Thats why the price point is so good. The consumer pays for the advertising.
Same 30 case of Coors light is $23.95.

My Dad had a little beer garden and he made a lot of money selling Carling Black Label. If I remember correctly it was a buck a six pack ( 1950's ). One time we were in Winnipeg and my Dad asked the waiter what the best Canadian beer was and he replied Carling Black Label. We all thought that was a low end beer.

I'll second that. On a long vacation in Canada, I acquired a real taste for Molson Export. When I got back to the US I was really disappointed that the Molson Export sold here tastes weak and watery. :(

Come on, Canada! Send us the real thing!!!!! :D

Yeah, when I was at Fort Benning, they didn't have Pearl. Carling Black Label was a poor substitute.

"Hey Mabel, Black Label".

I used to spend at least one week each year fishing on Stormy Lake in Ontario for Lake trout and Pike. We always had a cooler full of Molson Export on the boat. Folks it's hard to imagine it getting any better then that!

I think I will wash my buffalo wings down with a few Sam's for lunch today.:)

I frequently go to a blue collar bar for pizza, they serve mugs of Sam Larger Draft straight from the old spigot. I do like it.;):)

Great thread, everyone coming up with their favorites.

If you're going to drink all day you must start in the morning.

Coors light for me these days and you really can drink it all day and nothing bad happens. Come to think of it nothing good happens either.

POINT SPECIAL BEER

Beer Here: Point Special Lager from Stevens Point Brewery - Isthmus

UNION MADE

In 1976 Point beer was about $4.00 a case.
I am not sure now.
The best beer I ever had period.
There are several variations now.Plus it cost more.
The brats, beer, people and hunting are why I never left central Wisconsin while visiting in 1977.

If I want lite beer I want a lite beer add my own water or ice.
But I don't want a lite beer. Guinness and a splash of 7 up maybe.
