I'm still waiting for my new addition to show up.
Red dots have come a long way lately. Can I shoot at 100 yards with a red dot, under $125? I think at my range I will be shooting more at the 50 yd. distance or less. I really like the red dot concept but just not familiar with them.

I wouldn't think you'd get much for under $125, at least I wouldn't expect anything at that price point to be very robust. But, you can certainly hit targets at 100 yards and beyond. I just put an Aimpoint Micro 4MOA on a Ruger 77/44, and could hit the 300 meter gong at the local range (not very hard... but hit it nonetheless...). Many red dots subtend sizable area and may obscure small targets at long range --- the trick is to use a 6 o'clock hold.

I don't mind spending a little more, just don't want to put a $400 scope or red dot on a $400 gun. A 2 or 3 moa dot sounds like it would work. Always used cross hairs.

How large of a target will you be shooting at ?At 100 yards,a red dot can cover a bit of target area.

OP says 50 or less so I'd go red dot which is most likely 1x. If 100 is your range, I'd go magnified at least 3x or 4x. You can go red dot, then get a 3x magnifier as an alternative.

Get a Primary Arms red dot first. Later, buy a Primary Arms 3X magnifier on a side swing or QD mount behind the dot.

Best of both worlds.

A 5 MOA dot would be conducive to close to mid range, fast transition shooting. How is it at longer distances?

A coke can would be in trouble at 100 yards.
There's no magnification so if you can see it and can put the dot on it.... 5 MOA is about the size of a Blackberry or Iphone.

Thanks for the info! It's a very helpful addition to my red dot background knowledge.
