Rent a fully automatic machine gun?

I did not know a person could rent and shoot a fully automatic weapon! The LGS&R where I am a member has several for rent! I has surprised to learn they were available to shoot!
Two that they have, are the IMI UZI 9mm - Full Automatic & the H&K MP5 9mm - Full Automatic.
Rental Fee is: $15.00

There's an indoor range near me that has several for rent. They are carried into the range by an employee and chained to the bench on a short leash. The renter is given a short tutorial and left to their own devices. I've never had the urge to try it.
 
Yep. One indoor range here has them for rent. It's their firearm and you shoot it on their property, nothing illegal about that. I rented a Tommy gun there once back in 2001. It was around $100 if I'm not mistaken and I got 60 rounds. I know it sounds ridiculous to pay $100 for all of 1 min of shooting especially back then when I was kinda new to guns and didn't shoot well to begin with but i just wanted to see how a Tommy gun felt.

I believe they also rent MP5 and a few others
 
I also go to an indoor range that has two fully autos for rent. It's expensive though. When you think about the cost of the ammo alone while shooting, a pull of the trigger and you quickly burn through a whole mag of ammo. Never tried it but I would imagine a great fun factor.
 
My local indoor range has several, including a belt fed. $45 gets you about a second and a half of excitement. If that doesn't get your juices up, they also have a couple of armored vehicles that you can drive through the woods and crush a few cars. Full service mayhem .
 
During a few trips to Florida (Orlando area) I had the opportunity to fire a few different buzz guns. A Thompson, an Uzi and a HK,9mm. Without a doubt I like the Thompson .45 the best of all the autos I have fired (I have also fired a couple M16s at another location in my home state) (Very long story).

When I fired they carried the gun into the booth checked you out on it, insisted you fire a couple rounds in semi auto mode, and possibly they would let you go full auto.

Got to tell you when I was filling out the papers and paying for my shoot the RO that was to accompany me to the firing spot kind of groaned when I told him I was from NYS. I heard him say to another RO I got a Newyaker, I will watch him real close.

When we were setting up I told the RO I heard him and understand your concern, but I'm from way upstate NY where we have trees and mountains. Told him I grew up shooting and if fact am a RO and NRA 3 gun instructor at my UPSTATE club. He relaxed a bit and I did as instructed with my first 3 shots in Semi auto. At the third shot he said go full auto and have fun!

He then told me when I was done as he shook my hand he wished he could get more experienced shooters here as many scare the poop out of him. I replied many scare me also!:rolleyes:

First I'd heard about "renting a machine gun", a local range was doing it. Back in the late 80s. 25 dollars, and that included one magazine loaded with 25 rounds. Didn't matter if it was a 30-round stick or a 32 or whatever. You got 25.

Any addition rounds had to be bought from them. Not just "factory", but "bought from them". And since, at the time, I was buying S&B 45 ball for less than 8 bucks, and this range was selling it for 20, I decided against it.

I was in my local gun-pusher's one day (15 years or so later), and heard pow-pow-pow-pow-pow. And then nothing for a little while, then pow-pow-pow-pow-pow again. I asked what was going on, and he told me that a preacher from Georgia had come down on vacation, last year, rented a machine gun, and when he got back home had told his flock about it, and insisted that if they ever made it down here, they needed to come here and rent a machine gun. Fun, Fun, Fun.

So these two little old ladies - members of his congregation - had taken his advice. They had rented an Uzi and bought one box of ammo, and loaded five in the mag, and one lady fired 'em - pow-pow-pow-pow-pow. Then they loaded five more, and the other lady took a turn - pow-pow-pow-pow-pow.

They swapped back and forth until the box was empty, then came out, all smiles, gave him back his gun AND they had picked up all the empty brass and put it back in the Styrofoam tray and put it back in the box. They said the preacher was right - that had been quite enjoyable.

And then they left.

My gun-pusher tossed me the box full of empty brass, and I went and throwed it in my truck, and then went on home myownself.
 
Several times a year I hear automatic fire from about 3 different directions around here. I guess most of my neighbors have their own. I could not afford the ammo for one! Nice to hear so many ranges have them for rent. Last time I shot fully auto was at Camp Pendleton.
 
Colonial in Va Beach rents them. If you are a member you get a free MG rental on your birthday.

I was at Guns and Ammo Garage once, and there were four hot young ladies in skimpy clothing getting ready to shoot M-16s. My main thought: Boy, I wish they allowed photos!
 
Not long ago I got a Groupon email for discount on an M60 shoot from a range in Georgetown TX.

I believe the actual shooting could have been at the Best Of The West outdoor range in Liberty Hill TX.

That M60 could make you very poor very quickly.

For a while I was a BAR man while in the USMC.That was a sweet weapon to shoot but not to carry on a forced march.Still it was much better than humping the Browning 1919.

The best I ever shot was a Stoner 63 back in 64 while at the Landing Force Development Center,Quantico Va.I thought for sure the military would adapt it but instead they went with the Colt AR.

Oh,BTW,the worst I ever shot was a Smith and Wesson 9mm Model 76 in the NYPD

The Model 76 replaced the Thompson's that were on the Emergency Squad Trucks.

Bud's Gun Shop, yes the Bud's Guns Shop that we all know and love... recently opened a store in Sevierville, TN. Huge selection of guns and a first class indoor range. They rent machine guns. So for you guys going on vacation through the Smoky Mountains, drop off the wife at Tanger Outlet and go have some fun.
 
10-4, When I got into country, and assigned to a unit, they said you will be carrying the 60. I said I don't have much experience on the GUN, they said we don't give a rat's rear what experience you have, here's the gun, have fun.
 
I rented an M60 at a Knob Creek shoot 15-20 years ago. $40 for a belt of 50. I thought it was expensive at the time. I paid and got into a very short line.

The guy in front of me was with his girlfriend and I guess for her benefit, he shot it standing, offhand, Tommy-gun style. He didn't hit a target a single time and he was struggling to control it. We all stepped back thinking this dufus was going swing around and kill someone. The guy in charge of the gun stopped him and ordered him to lay down and use the bipod for the rest- at that point he had only a few rounds left which zipped into the woods.

My turn, I got comfortable on the ground and did 3-4 round bursts at a concrete-filled water heater tank that they placed at 100 yards. The sights were pretty much dead on and I "dusted" it and was able to see every pulverizing hit.

After my belt was done, I lifted it to know the weight and it was pretty heavy like I figured. On the trail back to the main area, my future wife teased me - "Impressive shooting. You think you're a badass now don't you?"
 
It weighs exactly 23.1 lbs. and each linked 100 round belt is 9 lbs. per. --I still have an indentation on my right shoulder. I always wondered how many miles I carried one around. By the way, an M60 has a flip up plate on the butt so it can be shoulder fired. Once you get the hang of it, it's not to hard to control.

About 25 years ago, in the Quad Cities, on the Illinois side, there was a place that rented full auto MP-44's. The German WWII Sturmgewehr. And they had more than one. A real hole-in-the-wall dump of a gun shop. I found it one day by accident while driving thru town (a short cut that turned into a long cut). Shooting range was in the basement. Went back maybe a year later, and it was closed.
 
It's fun to do at least once for the thrill of it. There is a range near me that you can rent a sub-machine or full auto M16. Down side is you need to buy their ammo ($$$) and you spend more time loading rounds in the 1 mag they give you with the rental then actually shooting. But like I said - worth doing once. :)

The new indoor range that opened a couple of miles from me is pretty nice with a restaurant, big screen TVs, and a machine gun rental area. There was a middle age couple bringing back a MP 5 and then getting a Thompson. I saw Uzi's, Schmeissers, ARs, Aks, and in the middle of the room was a twin mount with M2 .50 calibers and the sign read "$1,000 per belt".
 
One thing is.....

9mm can be had pretty cheap, so it's not the worst. I suppose short bursts is the key. I'm not hot on full auto but I know that Uzis and their ilk are gangbusters of fun to shoot and I'll bet you wouldn't be disappointed.
 
Local range here has several for rent although I've never done so.

They also do a full auto charity shoot once a year. I forget the exact charity, but it is a good cause. In this case local FA owners show up and provide their personal weapons for public use. Range provides the ammo. A crew of volunteers sit in the observation room steadily loading mags all day long. I believe the last time I went it was $30 per mag.
Ya never know what's liable to be there. I've seen Thompsons, MP5s, Macs, Uzis, M-3s, M-16s, AKs and such.
Its always a hoot and the money goes to a worthwhile cause. :D

Speakin of Knob Creek.
Should be next month and then again in Oct.
Now you have to wait a year plus on a list to fire up at the big range or ride the helicopter.
Been the last 3 years... Think we are skipping this year and just taking a day trip to Whitakers and maybe Kentucky Gun Co.
