This may sound weird, but I have always loved the ring hammers on guns like the early Hi-Powers and Colt Commanders. I always thought a ring hammer would look handsome on a stainless revolver especially, not to mention it would be less snag prone than a spur hammer.

I haven't seen one one a S&W, but I know Bowen Classic Arms put one on a Freedom Arms

I have a serious, but probably dumb question. Is there some function for a ring hammer? I've wondered about that since I bought a Browning HP back in the 60's.

Less of a hook to snag and at least on the Commander Colts, less chance of hammer bite. Now on the HP, more people often complained of the ring hammer versus the spur. I also like ring hammers because they tend to dig into you less if you carry IWB and suffer from some muffin top.

That makes sense. Thanks.
