Tried to drink a can of that "DrPepper"
It was impossible to finnish it... Absolutly disgusting :(

Dr Pepper, the old fixer upper. When I was a kid in the '40's I only saw the Dr in the upper state, and it was a novelty on my summer visits. In my 20's in 1955 in pre-flight at Lackland in San Antone it was a lifesaver. We were just out of military college and getting our first money as Second Balloons and ran at night like wild bucks. When reveille sounded for PT and we were a little rough around the edges at 5:30AM an ice cold Dr for 15 cents guzzled down quickly and a Lucky Strike got us ready to roll in a couple of minutes. What a time! I wish I could do it again( knowing what I know now). Now no liked,no Dr and no Lucky.Old age gets boring.

No Dr Pepper ? ! ? Where we gonna put our salty peanuts to eat if we can't pour em down the neck of a D P ?

When I was a kid, at least in my part of the world, the only mixer for peanuts was Coke in the old 6.5 ounce glass bottles. We had a Coke machine in school (for a nickel), could also buy candy bars (also for a nickel), potato chips, peanuts, etc. (before the days of healthy food in school, I guess). Everyone would buy a Coke and a cellophane envelope of Planter's Peanuts, then dump the latter into the former.

I don't drink much soda now, but to me, Dr. Pepper taste more like it did, back in the day, than Coke or Pepsi does. Of course the corn syrup is part of it. No more long nasal burps from Coke, and Pepsi, I just don't connect it with what I would get as a kid. But then, none of it taste as good as they did from thick embossed and enameled glass bottles. When I was in Jr. High, I would go to the local burger joint after school and get a chocolate Dr. Pepper. I though it was pretty good....back then.

Actually, some of the store labeled Dr. Pepper imitations are not bad, very similar to the taste of the real thing, at least to me. There are MANY Dr. Pepper imitators on the market, well over 100 (most, but not all, being named Dr. something or other), and some of them may not be so good. But the Wal-Mart version (Dr. Thunder) and the H-E-B version (Dr. B) seem OK to me.

.....BTW What happened to Buffalo Rock Ginger ale?

Buffalo Rock is still being made, and still advertises as a "family business", but it's owned by Pepsi now.

But if you live in South Carolina, surely you're familiar with that strong and deadly concoction called Blenheim Ginger Ale? It's still made in the little town of Blenheim and it's a family business...owned by the Schafer family now. Blenheim's been made longer than Buffalo. It's some potent stuff and I think it comes in two different strengths. It's sold only in bottles, by the way...no cans like Buffalo (it'd probably eat right through aluminum). I pass through or by Blenheim on my way down to Conway and North Myrtle Beach.

I used to buy Blenheim at a specialty wine and beer store up here, but I haven't had any type of soft drink at all since January of 2012. But I'll never forget the taste of Blenheim. Get yourself some of their Old #3 with the red cap, and fasten your seatbelt.

they make it differently in the Euopean market. When I was in Germany, Ami sodas were brewed with diff ingrediants. The Coca Cola, Sprite, Orange Crush etc, did not taste anything like our version.

Here's a question for you:ever had a carbonated lemonade? I've always wondered why I ever saw this until recently I saw some at Kroger~it's pretty good but the stuff they sell is kinda strong, not sweet very much and actually really kinda sour.

First time I tried it I was expecting a very sweet concoction as most stuff is here in the US and I took a big'ol swig, didn't do that twice!

Considering what a profit center it is...and they have achieved their goal of making it a national brand. There is that dispute over "that" Dr. Pepper as opposed to the "Original."
RC Cola is still around, just not as widely distributed.
I introduced some people to ice cream floats made with Dr. pepper-they thanked me for for it.

"RC Cola is still around, just not as widely distributed"

The local supermarkets stock it. When I was growing up, my favorites were RC and Double Cola (which as I remember came in a 16 oz bottle). I don't think the latter has been around for quite a while. RC and Moon Pie was a big deal back then.

Some years ago a lady from the East, NJ I think, was visiting Texas. Never having had it before we introduced her to the delights of Dr. Pepper....and explained that what makes it different is that while Coke and Pepsi are made in factories, Dr. P was formed underground eons ago and we drill for it just like we do oil. Most is found just West of Waco.

We gave her a 6 pack to take back to NJ along with her tales of her visit to the wild west.

Sure are a lot of Texans around here!!! Just start talkin about Dr. pepper going out of business and you fellas get all riled up!!!

Last three posts: South Texas, North Texas, and East Texas.

Best Wishes for the continued production of Dr. Pepper!!!

Just kidding guys.

Best Regards, Les

If Dr Pepper is going out of business, they sure are spending a lot of money on advertising. The Diet Dr Pepper commercials seem to be on non stop. I don't think I've had a Dr Pepper since I was in Texas (of course) in the Army, that would have been around 1976.

Anyone remember this junk?
