S-S-S-C-C-C-ORE! Mod. 57 4"

Chaps?? Rattler country?? Nice score by the way. A good friend of mine that I hunt with swears by his S&W .41 magnum and has killed many deer with it as proof! I myself prefer the venerable .44 mag. But that's just me. Both calibers get the job done nicely.

The chaps are to keep thorns out of my jeans, and keep off the mud, too. I hunt in some pretty brushy country. They also shed water pretty good thanks to the wax. Made by Filson.

The .44 is a fraud.;) It's really a .429. The .41 is the genuine article @ .410. I think the .41 might have really been what Keith was looking for all along. Maybe.

LoL, Zing!! But I think I agree......Maybe.

Whoa, HOLD IT! STOP THE PRESSES!!!

"Chin-mounted drool bucket?"

That's it. Screw the gun pictures.

I think you owe the rest of us a photo of that device. Installed.

ROTFLMAO.

Either I must be too old or it's a little too early in my morning for that kind of image to be blasted into my brain.

I'd like to see a picture of that too. :D

Sweet lookin' shootin' iron Dave and I like that rig you are carrying in too. These are fun guns to shoot that don't beat you up as bad as their big brother.
Here is the other end of the barrel lengths, my 8" version. Reaches way out there! Bob

:)

Here's my 57-1 6" I recently scored. I don't want to tell you The price because I don't want to make you jealous but in Philadelphia these guns aren't desirable and .41 magnum is really hard to come by so I plan to start reloading.

They're not real desirable out here in WA either. Dave...you did good! Cool to see you on these forums...used to seeing you elsewhere on the Web. ;)

...
I ran across a full box of 220-grain Speer half-jacket softnose bullets that I'm going to load up for this gun. Those are the ones with the semi-wadcutter front end of lead projecting above the half-jacketed base.

Those and their hollowpoint brethren are my favorite .41 bullets of all time. Only thing that might be a downside is they can't be run very slowly. Accurate! With just about any loading combo I've tried.

I'm currently overrun with ~6" barreled S&W.41 mags. Only 4" barreled units in the stable are a pretty and a way ugly 58. The ugly one times up perfectly, has a great DA and SA trigger and shoots very well indeed. The pretty 58 is just that, and not good for much of anything in the practical sense.

Was trying to work up a mild mannered 100 yard cast bullet load last weekend, and had three .41s at the range.

I have a Model 657 (6") and a "Parkerized" Model 58. Yes, the .41 is the civilized Magnum. The earlier revolvers are best.

jaymoore: The best load for your Model 58 is a 210 grain LSWCHP loaded to 1050 fps, generating 514,22 fpe. You will be amazed at how "tame" this load is in the 58 and how it will shoot precisely to the original POA as was designed.

Believe me when I tell you this, Brother... Elmer Keith was RIGHT!

That projectile and it's hollowpoint brother were exceptional shooters in my 41 Magnums

Shame they are discontinued

Yeah, I know. I have a supply of both, but it is hardly infinite. And at gun shows I occasionally see an old box for sale that somebody wants to ditch.
But the 210 Nosler is a great bullet, and it works well in speedloaders.

A really good deal with the ammo! I love the .41. Have a 57, Tracker, and a Super Blackhawk.

After my first s&w gun a '48 k22 my next purchases were nib m58 & m57/6" both in nickel for $699 each on clearance. Couldn't pass that deal up. I went back and they had a nib m24/6 1/2" barrel left in nickel. Can't leave it there alone.

The first outing with the m58 it was quiet everyone was shooting there plastic guns(9mm). I let six rounds of 41mag go and I woke everyone up and all eyes were on me. What a well balanced piece of machinery the 4" barreled N Frame in 41mag.

Bill, I believe you have what we call an "addiction." Only one way to cure that. Buy another S&W...preferably in .41 Magnum :D

HA.
I know what you're thinkin', punk. Did he fire six times, or only five?

You seem to have scored a winner. The image is a bit dark, but it doesn't appear to have any dings.
If you get into reloading, be sure to start with carbide dies (RCBS, Hornady, whatever), and I'd be delighted to offer some advice on bullet and powder choices.

I've learned over the years that the .41 is a marvelous cartridge to reload.

Congrats! ;)

Groo here
If this is your first 41mag you are in trouble!!!!!!!
The N frame and the 41mag are just made for each other.
The gun is accurate, the load powerful, just light enough
to shoot fast and powerful enough to take most game.
As an aside ,, How many have worn out an n frame 41mag?????
A match made in Handgun Heaven..

I got it really bad the S&W flu. A nib never fired m29-10 with plastic case and presentation wooden case for $699 followed me home too. It's in blue but for $699 why not. I found a brand new m24 6 1/2" in nickel. The nickel finish I prefer

NICE score! love the .41 mag. most underrated of all the magnums. i have a 57 (no dash) 4", and a 57-5 mountain gun. the MG is the one i carry in the field for rascals, 4 legged, and 2... taken more than 1 hog with it too! shoot on man, and love your new purch.
