...but at least if they have ammo it’s for reasonable prices. After my early Sunday trip to the dump I figured it would be nice to swing by sportsman’s to see if they had any powder or anything that catches my eye. I wasn’t expecting much but also wasn’t expecting to show up an hour before opening. I looked around the parking lot at all the cars with people eagerly awaiting their doors to open. I figured. I’m not going to waste an hour of my Sunday to walk around to look at over priced ammo and empty shelves. So I made my way over to Walmart to pick up some groceries and as always walk by the empty ammo shelves just to see. Well what a surprise. A bunch of 22lr. I went to a gun show a couple weeks ago and been keeping an eye on armslist and I couldn’t pass up on “affordable” 22. As soon as I made my purchase another man came behind me. I recon that most Likely it’s all gone now.

A "good price" is under $9, tax included, for a Federal 550 cartridge bulk pack. Then came the Obama years ... then ...

What's a good price now? .22 LR prices had gone back down to $15 for 500 Blazers and occasionally better prices on other brands. I have not bought any this year.

I was waiting for my oil change to be done at Wally World and saw two whole boxes of ammo on the shelf - 28 gauge Number 7 1/2 and 20 gauge #5. The 20 was 8 bucks and change. I fought the gotta-buyit urge and put it back.

I purchased my first 22 in 2009 and paid $15 for 550 rounds. I’ve yet to see them that “cheap” since. I recon in 8 years or so when some guy posts they scored a box of 200 9mm for $90 I can reminisce of a time when I could get a box of 200 for $33. At guess at this point in time “cheap” is a relative term. And I would much rather give wal mart $50 for 1k. Then give some scalper on armslist or at the gun show $90 for 500.

The last factory loaded 9 mm cartridges I bought were Wolff steel cased 115 grain FMJ for $86 a thousand out the door of a gun show. That was not last week. However, during Trump's term while the economy was still good and it looked like he was going to be in office for awhile Fred Meyer sold me a brick, 10 boxes of 50, Federal .22LR 40 grain for $9.90 + tax. $15 + tax a brick was closer to average but that was my last .22 cartridge purchase.

Back to my question, when Wally World has bulk pack .22 on the shelf, what's the price?

Wow, I really read that originally as some sort of philosophical or rhetorical question. With tax I got out the door for $51 for 1k. They had some boxes of remington 330 round boxes for $17 plus tax. I only picked up the 1k because that’s more than I’ll need and I’m sure the guy that bought a box after me would have been sad as hell.

I did hop armlist when I got home because it’s good for a laugh or two recently. And some guy was selling the same stuff I just bought for $90 per 500.

For the last 30 years every few years there's been a buying panic on some sort of shooting supplies or category of guns. They have all passed. This one will to.

In the grand scheme of thing $25 a brick is not all that bad. The worse effect is that since all cartridges will sell no matter how bad they are quality control falls off. Those <$9 Federal 550 ctg. bulk packs I bought in the early 2000s were good enough to get my toe into master class in bullsye. A few years later during the Obama .22 cartridge shortage they deteriorated to cartridges that I would not have bought at any price earlier.

I was in our local wally world and they had one (1) box of shotgun shells. Nothing else. Didn't even have any firearms for sale. And definitely no 22's for sale. Fra

The Federal 550 packs are @ $22 when they show up, Winchester 555 count slightly more as are Remington Golden Bullet 525 count. Haven't seen any of the 1000 rd boxes lately but the shelf tag is still $51 (iirc). I work part time at the local wally world in sporting goods. Biggest issue is supplies are spotty, only get small amounts of ammo and often go three (or more ) deliveries without getting any. Add in the panic buyers and flippers and nothing lasts long

I have about 10,000 RDS of .22 after that hold back a few years ago i bought some whenever i seen good deals , about 6 years ago i got 2 buckets of bullets Remington goldens about 1300 in each they were 59.00 each never see that again

I know this thread is about ammo but here is another Walmart plus. This weekend my ten year old WiFi router died leaving us without network access. I am not a computer guy but have basic skills. I was able to go to Walmart, get a new Netgear WiFi Router and a WiFi USB adapter key for my computer and some advice from the experienced guy in electronics and get the system back up in an afternoon.

No need to deal with Best Buy, Amazon, computer store, etc. For the cost of the parts $97 and my labor was able to get a problem squared away quicker than relying on someone else.

A while back, bought some 20 GA at Walmart.
They had some Centerfire Rifle and a lot of 28 GA .
The whole world seems to have 28 Ga!
Did somebody say buckets?
This is my last Bucket Buy.
Got them at Cabelas.

Have not seen ammo at mu local WM in over 3 months. May be my bad timing - who knows.

I think that’s the name of the game right now. A co worker keeps telling me about getting ammo at Dunham sports at reasonable prices. But it’s far and few between. Any other time I go to wal mart it is empty shelves. I don’t even know why I even venture over there. But I guess my luck that day was the reason I still swing by.

Yeah, I’ve been able to find primers, powder, dies at my local Walmart when the guns stores were out. They never have large quantities, and you have to be there at the right time. Today I picked up 2 Federal 100 pack of 12 gauge shells for $22. At 22 cents a shell, that’s a lot cheaper than most other Ammo, including some 22lr. Didn’t need it, but...

Some Walmarts seem to get some .22 in a couple times a week, some get none.
I bought a bunch of Mini-Mag over the summer and fall for $7.97 per hundred pack.
Now they get mostly Remington and Winchester bulk pack and once in a while some CCI Standard Velocity or Remington Subsonic.

The Remington Golden's, while not tackdrivers, are now very reliable and my go to for plinking. They sell for $24.97 at the WM here.
The bulk Winchester has had some duds. The Super-X in the red 100 packs all go bang but many will hit way low on the target.
Winchester .22 ammo isn't what it used to be.

The two Sportsman's Warehouse stores near me get a sprinkling of ammo now and then, and their prices are normal as well, no gouging.
Not much .22 though, a few boxes here and there of 9mm, .45 ACP or 5.56mm.

I think Walmart is in the game to make money by volume not price, so they don't jack up their prices like some.

I stopped in one a few weeks ago looking for .22 pellets. Found they had the 100 round Mini-mags in their cabinet. The only ammo there. They said 2 box limit on each "type". She had 1 36 grain and maybe 5-6 40 grains. Let me buy 2 40 grains and the 36. I think they were 7.99 each.

I make it a point to walk through the ammo section of any store I visit now to see if they have anything I can use in stock at reasonable prices.

Rosewood

Gee, I was rummaging around in some boxes yesterday Found 600 rounds of 22, 50/ 45acp, 80 rounds Rem 222, 40 rounds 30-06, and 50 rounds of 44 mag and a box of 22-250. The prices? Well let's just say the stickers for 22's were under 1.00/ box.:)
