SCOTUS extends RTKBA to all 50 states!

There are several threads going in the 2nd Amendment area, but remember that this is just another step in what is proving to be a long, long battle.
Chicago , NY, etc, will not give up quietly and easily.

Great news. I hope this puts the final nail in the coffin of the Brady Bunch.

That "coffin" will never be completely shut. We will forever have to be vigilant in our fight against those tyrants and their heirs.

But...this is a wonderful day!

Daley the 2nd has already been quoted that registration will be required. His position is that if a first responder is called to a residence, they should "know" if there is a gun registered to that address.
He couldn't care less about the cops OR the citizens.

I don't know who he's more like, the fat kid in "Pee Wee's Big Adventure" who wants Pee Wee's bike, or Gollum from Lord of the Rings.

He's a pathetic creature.

I hope he spits squarely in SCOTUS's eye, so that the slapdown is even more decisive and bites even more anti-gunners than it otherwise would.

This is what it is all about. The NRA is fighting and supporting the rights of the second amendment for every law abiding gun owner. If you are not a member, please take the time to join. Our membership dues pays for legal battles that are on going both on local, state and federal issues. If you are a gun collector, gun enthusiast, shooting competitor, Hunter or interested in gun history, you too can help in the legal cost of our heritage.

+1,000,000!!!Today is a GREAT day!!!Join the NRA!!!!!! :):):)

As soon as I heard the ruling I knew it was 5-4 with the four liberal who value European laws over the constitution against gun rights. Sure enough! It's always up to Anthony Kennedy, the spineless moderate who'se vote's are very erratic.
This ruling is Bush's legacy, fellow gun owners. If Gore or Kerry won the Presidency there wouldn't be a Roberts and Alito there.

I haven't always agreed with Kennedy's rulings, but I think your characterization of him is a little harsh. No, a lot harsh. He has been on our side much more often than not.

This should shut up the nut jobs who are always complaining about activist judges!

The sad news is that four Justices dissented. They want to do away with our God given right that's outlined in the Bill of Rights.

The ironic part is that most of the restrictive gun laws trace their roots to keeping blacks from being able to possess firearms. We of course know that it was the Democrats who implement these restrictive laws. Also they were implemented to help orginized crime flourish. Look at the Sullivan Act in NY.

It was 5 to 4 today,
but Kagen is on the way.

This is a great day. It will be a greater day when universal concealed carry is the unquestioned law of this land.

We can never stop this fight.

My take on this is exactly what I said would happen weeks ago in a post here.

The decision is 5-4. That means if one Justice went the other way, the gun owners would have lost. Even with 5-4, they still may have lost ground.

This was not a unamious decision. It was a slim majority decision. That means four people on the Bench felt the law was Constitional as applied. They used their personal opinions for a basis of decision.

Now you guys elected the man in office and he is appointing Justices that will be liberal in their opinions. With his latest appointment, you will see the gun rulings go south for gun owners.

My advice. Buy all the guns you can soon because the day is coming when you will not be able to for many reasons and you will likely not be able to afford them after paying all the new Obama taxes.

Two things here--(1) just who are you referring to with your blanket "you guys"? If you polled the forum membership, I imagine you would have a good 80% who did not vote for Obama, so I don't think "us guys" are to blame.;) (2) as I said in a previous post, neither of Obama's appointments have changed the balance on the court. Kagen's appointment is not going to cause things to "go south" for gun owners. Alito and Roberts are relatively young, so we need to pray for good health for Kennedy, Thomas, and Scalia.

Scotus

A great day, now for the rest of the campaign to finally get the Gov't to protect our right to keep and bear arms, as intended by the constitution.

I'm certainly happy with this ruling and I'm a member of the NRA.

I'm disappointed with NRA leadership in not fighting the Disclose Bill that recently passed the house. The NRA was specifically exempted from this bill via a carve out so the opted not to fight a bill in direct conflict with the first amendment because it didn't apply to them. NRA is not actively opposing Kagen, either. They've adopted a watchful waiting stance when they ought to be beating the drums about her liberalism and prior anti-2nd amendment disclosures. Bork her!

If ONE Japanese naval officer had NOT turned on his ship's ventilating system at the wrong time, we might not have won the battle of Midway.

I'd rather ponder the role of luck AFTER the war is won, rather than in the middle of the battle.

Why waste the time and money? Like Sotomayor she's a slam dunk for confirmation. Like Sotomayor she's replacing an outgoing lib so nothing changes there. And like Sotomayor she's a lightweight compared to the likes of Roberts ,Alito, Thomas and Scalia so she'll be influencing nobody. Kicker here for me is that each of these could be the appointed lib who turns conservative. We're long overdue for one of those.

This is a good point, we are due a "surprisingly good" Judge.
Perhaps Scalia can charm our newest Judge to be???

1. There are many liberals here and they admit it. Some here have openly admitted to voting for the current adminstration. There are others that campaigned and voted for the guy that will now not admit to doing such. While I agree that most here did not vote for him, I bet that there would be more closely to a 60/40 percentage.

2. The SC balance is not yet shifted but there will be another appointment made very soon. All it is going to take is one good Justice having health problems or sudden death and things will shift on the Bench.

This is indeed excellent (though not unexpected) news. For those of us who live in states with governments that spit on civil liberties, the thought of this decision going the other way is indeed chilling.

But, make no mistake about it: this is not the end of the fight; it's merely the beginning. No one is going to wake up tomorrow (or in 30 or 60 or 90 days) and discover that their gun rights have been reinstated. Indeed, the McDonald case is being remanded to a lower court for reevaluation.

There are many battles yet to be fought before shall-issue, NGISZ, silly AW definitions and the like are eradicated. The good news is, such battles now look to be much more winnable than they've been in a long, long time.

Molon labe.
