SET IN MY WAYS / TRADITIONALIST

I like things that work period. Nice part of being that way is that there are plenty of new guns and old guns that work. If you ask me there are just as many ugly old guns as there are new ugly ones.

No problem preferring one style over the other, just don't expect everyone to agree with you. I actually like people that are hung up on the IL, as it makes it easier for me to get better deals on the gun I want.

I'm 56. No, I don't think you're a dinosaur.

When someone says revolver, I immediately think of a S&W older style (pre 1994) gun.
I think a lot of youngsters think that way too. Or at least a Python if they've been corrupted.

When someone says Pheasant Hunting gun I think of a Browning Superposed, Browning A5, or a Remington 1100.
The 1100 is still pretty popular with all ages.

When someone says Auto Loader or Semi Auto, the picture in my mind is a Colt 1911 Gov't, Model or Gold Cup.
There ya might have something. All the CoD gamers are into Glocks or other tacticool "me too" boxy black euro nines. If they have any taste they might think of the M92. I think a lot of them come around to 1911 when they get a little experience.

When someone says Military Rifle I think of an M1 Garand or M1 Carbine.

For me it's the M16... with the long barrel.

If one of the younger guys in my club asks me for a holster recommendation, the word "Kydex" NEVER would enter my mind.

I live in Kalifornistan. Holsters are things that cops & annoying right wing radio talk show hosts have.

I'm 56. When someone says "Revolver" I still think "The Beatles". :)

I'm 36, hunt in muzzleloading season with a replica 1853 Enfield Musketoon. The only semi auto pistol I own is my grandfather's Colt Woodsman from 1950. I have never owned a Glock. I think lever actions are much more cool than AR-15's. When I think of sniper rifles I think more of Berdan's Sharpshooters and Billy Dixon than Carlos Hathcock. My idea of a good shotgun is an Ithaca 37. Nothing fits on the hip better than gunleather.

Hum... resonates with me. I'm soon to be 54. When I think revolver, I think S&W. I've had a number of Ruger and Colt revolvers. But S&W is the standard to which all others either do or do not measure up.

When someone says "bird hunting," my thoughts jump to dove and Remington 870's... 1100's... A-5's.

When someone says "pistol" my thoughts immediately jump to the COLT 1911 ... specifically the 1911-A1 ala Series 70.

The words "military rifle" call to my mind the 1903 and 1903-A3 Springfield rifle... and the M-1 Garand. As well I think of the M-98/Kar-98 rifles.

As far as holsters are concerned, my first holster was a Bianchi 10L for my first new revolver... a 6" S&W M-28-2. Sadly both are long gone. Currently my holster is a El-Paso Saddlery Tom Threepersons for my 6" S&W 28-2. When I can work it out, I hope to be able to buy a nice leather holster for my Model 18.

About two years ago I did move a little bit away from tradition. My wife and I were appointed to a church located immediately across the street from a major housing project. We had to deal with significant issues that we had not faced for many years. As I am often gone at night, my wife needed a pistol she could use easily and effectively. We choose a Glock G-22 as it was the most powerful weapon she could best use. I have used this pistol with a Glock sport holster for occasional oc in the woods and fields. It is a very very good pistol and a very good holster. Sincerely. bruce.

turned 61 this past January...grew up in the presence of my Dad's dad,who believed you were never too young to work hard...1st job was shoveling cow poop out of the dairy barn into my radio flyer wagon and hauling it out to the pile to be dried and used for fertilizer (never waste anything)...ranch foreman rode a burning glider down into North Africa and spent the balance of the war in various hospitals...wouldn't take more than minimum disability because then he wouldn't be able to work, which he did every day with both arms and legs wrapped in elastic bandages even in 100+ deg. heat and 100% humidity -once made me dive in the Sabine river the fetch a frog I had shot(if you kill it, you recover and use it)...still have and use the 870 my dad gave my for my 14th birthday, bought my Remington 700(270Win.) in 1971, and carry a Mdl.34 snubby bought in '69 on the weekends
Thirty two years ago I bought a 25-5 as my first duty weapon(still have it in the bedroom).
Good wood, blued steel, a well tanned leg in a pleated skirt.....Bill Haley, Sam Cook, Dodge's w/ 440's and Chevy "rat " motors

So am I alone here or are there some other "Dinosaurs" out there as well??

Not in the least, I'm sure that there are a large number of us out there. The only thing on your list I would amend is when someone says auto loader, I think of the Browning H.P. or M-39.
I often believe that I've been somewhat of a dinosaur for 30 + years now, and I have no desire to change now.

Not a dinosaur but I am a Life Member of SNM-Sons of Neanderthal Man.
No aluminum, titanium, polymer for me. Steel and Walnut-OK, Steel and Rubber on a stainless steel gun.
I have no CCW, live in a state where they are VERY hard to get. Were I to get one, my sidearm will be solid steel. Always thought if you feel the weight when you carry it you will feel the weight when you fire it. And if you are that sensitive to weight when you "pack iron", then you need to start "pumping iron".

In the last couple of years I started buying stainless S&Ws. Should have started sooner.

But, when it comes to semi-autos I still believe the Colt M1911 or M1911A1 is the only way to go, or a good clone. In .45 Auto of course.

Last but not least I still think the "right" girl in a pair of tight Wrangler jeans or Levi 501s is better than any girl wearing anything else....or less.

I'm just about to hit 57 and recently I find myself becoming a "Dinosaur" in the gun world. We all have a "mental picture" in out heads of what things are supposed to be, and I find that my opinions and what is the "best there is" is a drastically different than the new generation coming into our sport. I will give you a for-instance.............

When someone says revolver, I immediately think of a S&W older style (pre 1994) gun.

When someone says Pheasant Hunting gun I think of a Browning Superposed, Browning A5, or a Remington 1100.

When someone says Auto Loader or Semi Auto, the picture in my mind is a Colt 1911 Gov't, Model or Gold Cup.

When someone says Military Rifle I think of an M1 Garand or M1 Carbine.

If one of the younger guys in my club asks me for a holster recommendation, the word "Kydex" NEVER would enter my mind.

So on and so forth...........

So am I alone here or are there some other "Dinosaurs" out there as well??

Regards,
