When did it become fashionable to so personalize the singing of The Star-Spangled Banner at events like this? They've made it about them, not about the heroic events and sacrifices the Anthem memorializes. Artistic interpretation is one thing, but these displays are another. I now routinely cringe when I hear, "and now, to sing the Star-Spangled Banner. . .

"The Star Spangled Banner" is actually a very difficult piece, musically, even classically trained singers have trouble with it. Always prefered "Hail Columbia" or "Columbia, the Gem of the Ocean" myself.
