While at Academy the other day, I noticed a Shield 40 Perormance Center model, priced quite nicely. I never considered a Shield before, but I got to say this pistol looked really nice with the slide cuts and fiber sights. I never much cared for porting, but it does seem like a good idea in a 40 snub nose, and I never much liked 40 until I realized I can use the same bullets, powder, and dies as my 10mm. I always heard PC guns had better triggers and overall quality than the stock models, which makes the price seem like a steal. Anyone have any experience with these PC Shields?

Yeah I got a PC 9mm shield. The trigger is much improved. I do like the porting and fiber optic sights and it was flawless out of the box.

I thought about one when I bought my Shield but decided on the non-ported model. I don't regret it but I would definitely consider the PC if I bought another one.

I have a PC 9mm on order. Been waiting for over a month. I also have a traditional Shield which I really like. Did lots of research on the PC Shield. The overall opinion is quite positive. Looking forward to comparing the 2.

Buy it!!Even though I have the 9mm. It is an outstanding firearm either caliber ,Sootch00 does a great review on the S&W shield pc on youtube! 500 rounds through mine, steel, brass, 115 gr 127 grn 147 gun, remanufactured ,factory it don't matter, it eats it all, love mine! Excellent trigger. sights are awesome too, they really suck up the light really well ,even when sun goes down, any little ambient light make theses things glow particularly during those low light self defense witching hours. For the money with the upgraded trigger ,sights and ported barrel its a win win situation in my book.
I will be putting a Green Crimson trace laser on this bad chicken as soon as I'm able.:)

I would say not to expect "better overall quality". However, it should have an improved trigger pull over the base model because of the geometry of the parts used. Other than that, it has FO sights and porting. If you're expecting a tremendous difference over the base model, you might be disappointed. But the price difference is minimal so if you are good with the ported model, then I say it's worth the price difference. The first thing I would do with the base model would be to improve the sights and trigger anyway, which would probably bring the total cost to more than the performance center model.

I considered the regular Shield but would have wanted to add sights and upgrade trigger. I put a PC in layaway since at Cabelas the price difference was only $50. I couldn't do what would have wanted for that so seemed like no brainier for me.

I didn't like the trigger pull on my Shield 9mm at first but have adjusted to it now. Really enjoy shooting the pistol.

Thanks for all the replies. That PC Shield sure does look like a good deal, although now I may wait a while. The new Shield in forty-five changes a few things!

Hey, so, I'm new around here.

I'm considering buying a Sheild, haven't settled on performance center or standard just yet, for Concealed carry, which I have a valid permit for in my state.

I know Glock and Springfield Armory's XD line are famous for how they preformed during torched testing. And I was wondering, Has anyone done similar torched testing to the Shield and gotten something in the same ball park for reliability results?

I have the PC shield 40. I did have FTF problems with all ammo S&W fixed that issue and it has run flawlessly ever since. I have also replace the FO sights with Trijicon night sights. It has become my favorite pistol for protection.

I have been asked about the flash from the ported barrel. I have tested my 9 PC Shield in total darkness along with a non ported shield. The flash is no worse with the porting than the non ported barrel.

The best thing to do is try various SD rounds (even same rounds different batch run) for a low flash. Different batch runs of ammo can and will vary in the amount and color of flash.

The big thing that should be of concern with ported barrels is not to shoot holding in close to your body in a retention position.

I installed the True Glow TFO with the Yellow/Green combination on my PC Shield and put the FO sights from the Shield on my M & P 22. Works great on both.

Finally got my PC Shield. Very pleased. Its more refined than the standard Shield. With the porting its easier to bring back on target. Sighys are excellent. Muzzle flash is nill.

Gun show was in town... I thought that I could go an get a Shield Performance Center in 9mm at a discounted price... boy was I wrong. They had them marked with MSRP of 599.99 and at special for 519.99... what a bunch of #@$%^%$^ 519.99 is the MSRP!!!

Anyway... did not buy it... I want one but I am not going to pay full price for it... I can wait...

I just went to look at the S&W site... humm... now I am confused. They have two versions of the Shield PC... one for 519 and one for 600 I wonder if I read the description wrong on the one at the gun show...

Depends if it had night sights or fiber optic sights. Either way, that's still kinda high, IMO.

Correct. I want the one with the fiber optic sights... so focused on it that I did not realize the they also had night sights available. So God knows what I read from the label attached to the gun on display...lol... whatever I read, I interpret being fiber optics and could not believe the price... wish I had not gotten so blind by the price to ask more about it... I just looked at it, saw the price, thought it was a lousy selling approach and just kept walking. Stupid me. I will try to stop by their store and ask for pricing on the one I want...
