Shield Plus (10 round flush mag) in the works

In the video Julie weighs a 1.0 and the new plus (starting about the 1:40 mark). The 1.0 with 8+1 weights the same as the new plus with 10+1.
 
Looking at the videos the plus might be better compared to the Glock 43X and Sig P365 XL than guns like the P365 and Hellcat. I prefer the smaller guns but a lot of people find them too small and something like the new Shield might be just what they are looking for. The reported street price is already a lot lower than MSRP and will probably go lower once the new wears off so it is not as over priced as I thought it was.

Sometimes S&W lists the weight of a gun with an empty magazine, sometimes they list the weight of a gun with no magazine. Since the plus model appears to the the 2.0 Shield with a different polymer frame I would be surprised if there is actually 2 ounces difference in weight.

ETA: I watched the video and they did weigh the guns. The plus weighs 20.14 ounces and the 2.0 weighed 20.35 ounces, a difference of .2. Both with empty magazines.

you're right. .2 ounces, not 2 ounces. basically negligible at best
 
So I picked up a Plus this morning. As soon as I wrapped my hand around the grip with the 13rd mag I was in love. Grip is a little bit bigger than my Shield 45. I have been wanting to pick up a 9mm Shield for the house and this just fell in place. The Hellcat and P365 just never fit my hand like this one did. I really love the trigger on this one, nice and smooth.

I can confirm that my Tulster and my N8 prolock holsters for the Shield 45 fit this Shield Plus without a problem. Now to get to the range.
 
Low cap guys should just carry single shot derringers cause hey, one should be enough.
 
I marvel at the insecurity of so many who feel their solution is the only one.
Mostly from the “must have all metal with hammer” folks. Hilarious.

They always seem to butt into these “plastic fantastic” threads with their wisdom.

I have a Shield 1.0 that has primer drag, SW said its normal??

And it's a bigger gun than the Shield Plus, in every dimension, and it's heavier. It also has a DA/SA trigger, which isn't for everyone.

So if you don't have a 3913 already, the Shield Plus likely makes much more sense.

"Newer" just means newer not necessarily better. Those of us with 3913/3914s with years of experience shooting revolvers and DA/SA autos Don't need to invest in a new "platform" ..... gun mags and kydex.

Err, you quickly forget about the Shield recalls as well as those from nearly every firearm manufacturer on the planet.


I guess I am odd but I bought my first P365 a month after they came out and my second one a month following.
I stopped counting after firing 7000 handloaded rounds through the first and each and casing with the dreaded swipe mark on the primer.
After I hit 5000 rounds fired, my Shield and Kahr PM9 were sold to friends.

Sig has its haters and to each its own but the P365 is a really great carry gun that changed the industry for life.
Ask Glock, SA, Ruger, and now S&W.

It may seem like I'm brand loyal, but I owned over 12-15 Sigs over the years and have had nothing but bitter disappointment in the newer ones in the last decade since Cohen took over (2 P938's that weren't even remotely reliable, the infamous P320, 3 of the P365s that I DESPERATELY wanted to like)

Interesting experiences you have had. I read on Al Gores internet the same about Kimber, Glock, SA, and others depending on what forum one happens to be on that particular day.
I have been a range officer at an indoor range for the last ten years, seen literally millions of rounds fired and MY experience with Sigs as well as all the other names I have mentioned above is pretty much less than a fraction of a percent of everything that comes into our range may have a defect that requires returning the gun to the factory.

This is how I feel. I rented a P365 at the range and did not fall in love. The Shield has always fit my hand great and I get good results with it. I carry to work where I collect rent behind a cashier style window. A Shield/43x size gun conceals nicely for me OWB on my 6"1" 190lb frame. I already sold a P290 and LC9 because I hated shooting them and couldn't achieve acceptable groups. I'm not trying to carry the smallest gun possible. I'm trying to carry the smallest gun I can shoot!

The Shield+ will not bring the high-over-MSRP prices the original did, because there are too many choices today.

I'd prefer an optic ready model with a thumb safety though.

I agree, lots of P365 owners on this forum, why I'll never know. Their hasn't been a P365 that out shot my Shield 2.0 and seen others shoot the P365 disappointing accuracy, even in my hands.

A fellow shooter struggles with the 320, too many double taps, normally shoots low 4's on the timer but not with the 320, need bigger plates for its groups.

Cohen/SIG trying his/their best to hide the LE suits over the 320 discharging in the holsters, sealed settlements. Canada Military has boxed up all the new SIG 320's and have gong back to their Browning High Powers.

SIG can't hide all this, its a catching up .................

According to the S&W website, a Shield 1.0 (which is what I was discussing) weighs 20.8 oz., the 2.0 weighs 18.3 (which is where I mistakenly read it - not sure what 2 ounces they cut from the 1.0) and the Plus weighs 20.2 (they put some of it back). But point taken, 0.6 oz. is hairsplitting. Not sure the weight difference wouldn't be offset by the extra 3 rounds.

Just to keep it interesting, the SIG 365 goes 17.8 and the Hellcat is 18.3, so if I really wanted the extra rounds I'd go Springfield, pick up an additional round and a 2 oz. weight advantage and drop .5 inch of height. (4.0 in. vs 4.6).

I'm liking the new Plus model but S&W is making two errors that will likely prevent me from buying one. First, they don't have the optic cut on the 3.1" barrel model - only the 4" barrel model comes with the optic cut. Second, S&W has an optional manual safety on basically every polymer pistol they make....but not the 4" barrel Shield for some reason. So, I want the Shield Plus with an optic cut and manual safety but they don't make it.

They make a seemingly endless number of configurations but not the one I want in the Shield line. The new Ruger Max-9 has the optic cut and manual safety but I'd rather have an M&P. P365XL is another option with both in this size class. I already have an M2.0 compact (which I love) but the optics cuts weren't available when I got mine and I'd like an option one notch smaller.
 
You know, if there weren't differences of opinions and different hand sizes, there probably won't be all these different manufacturers. I say to each their own. Life would be boring.
I love my Shield 45 but shoot my Shield 9 more due to ammo availability. I was in a car accident 40+ years ago that messed with my right hand. I love the thin single stack. I have some double stack pistols - my favorite is a Taurus P-845. Its ambidextrous everything as I'm trying to learn left handed shooting. I cannot use any back strap safety pistols (1911 type) due to my handicap.
