Hey, has anyone removed the "front" sight from a Sigma9VE?? I thought most front sights were held in with a screw or nut, but the bottom of mine looks like it's a blob of melted plastic or something? Any idea how they come out and go back in?? Thanks!!

Yeah, what is that mess on the inside of the slide, under the front sight. Looks like a bird dropping.

I'm not sure, but it kind of looks like the
sight has a plastic stud that sticks through
the hole, and they heat it with something to
flatten it down and lock it into place.
But I'm just guessing. :/

MK:

You have assessed the front sight situation correctly. Once they have been inserted at the factor, they use heat to deform and "stake" the front sight post into place. I had to remove the front sight on my Sigma 40F and it was very simple to remove the slide, lay it upside down on a small towel on workbench and punch it through with a small pin punch. I'm not sure, but I don't think the old (original) front sight could be reinstalled or reused.

Regards,

Dave

Once you remove it, it cannot be reinstalled, so be careful.

The front sight is "hydrosonically welded" in place by rf waves. It melts the plastic stem of the sight flat to the slide. Only alternative is to get a sight that has a screw that will hold it in the slot, like a night sight from Trijicon etc. It needs to be flat enough against slide to not interfere with bbl operation on chamber/eject.

Thanks for the info! Figures they would do something like that, so ya cant remove/replace the sight w/o damaging it.. Some may actually like to try other sights w/o having to send it back to S&W if they decide to go back to stock..
