Sigma:What's the truth???

I've had my SW9VE for a few years. No failures of any kind. I have big hands and grew up shooting DA revolvers so I actually am very comfortable with the trigger. I find the quality to be very good for this price point, and I have no issues with accuracy. It's not a Kimber but I wasn't hoping it would be.

As a nightstand home defender and occasional concealed carry to supplant my Ruger LCP it works great.

This debate is like a Ford vs. Chevy thing...nobody is ever gonna agree.

Great comments so far! I hope we can get a fair number who simply say " I own a Sigma XXX and I have put XXX rounds thru it. My experience has been...." What? Click? Snap? Crack or Bang? Thanks

I own a Sigma SW40GVE and have put 500+ rounds through it. Had no malfunctions until after shooting several hundred rounds of the filthy cheap Winchester white box ammo without cleaning. Did a VERY thorough strip & clean and function has been restored to 100%. I have also "dry fired" the trigger several hundred times and the pull is very acceptable.

I prefer it to my Glock 22RTF but not to my .40 Hi Power (of course). The Glock is my nightstand gun with a mounted light but the Sigma & Hi Power go to the range and actually get shot. I like the Sigma and if I was not already well stocked with .40s & pistols in general would by another for back up.

I just bought a Sigma SW9VE and love it! Haven't put any rounds through mine yet, but a good friend owns the same gun and was gracious enough to let me put about 200+ rounds through it to get a good read on it.
I thought about holding out for a glock 19, but for the money, ($299) and the $50 dollar rebate, I just couldn't pass it up. Yes, the trigger pull is a little heavier then a glock, but no complaints here. I enjoy the added safety that offers, and can train myself to get used to it. I am still on target, even with the heavier trigger pull.
Anyone in here done the trigger modification on their's? Would be curious to hear some feed back on it.
All in all, I love my SW9VE and don't regret buying it for a minute. Very easy to field strip and clean.

must be one proud papa

Thank you sir! I certainly am!

My oldest daughter is my shooting partner. I taught her how to shoot with my Blackhawk. She has pretty much taken over the sigma; we both love the gun!

My baby girl (16) has just taken an interest in learning. She wants a 22.

We will accomidate!

Thanks,

Lee

I have a 40VE. Received it as a present a few years ago. I really want to like this pistol, but after smoothing the action, trying different grip styles and stances I've arranged to trade it for an M&P .40.
I think it's a well made gun, and I can live with the trigger, but in order to make it comfortable to shoot, I would have to cut and alter the beavertail. No matter how I hold this thing, it bites the web of my hand. By the end of a 14 roung mag, I'm ready to put the gun down and pick up something else.

Over the last 3 years I've put over 1,000 rounds through it. It never missed a beat, even with my handloads. Reliable and reasonably accurate. I think it's a good gun - it just doesn't fit my hand and shooting style. I'm glad it does for others though, because it is a bargain for the price and is NOT junk.

I bought my SW40VE in Feb of '08. cost was $165 after the rebate and I also received 2 free mags in that deal. After more than 3000 rnds through it I have never had a fail to fire, eject or anything. I did send it back to the factory after shooting a few +P+ Georgia Arms rounds through it and cracking the front left frame rail. S&W replaced the frame and installed free Trijicon night sights on it for my trouble. The trigger on mine got alot better after I installed Wolff's reduced power striker spring and then did a fluff and buff on the internals. It is easily my favorite polymer pistol even compared to my XD45 and 709 Taurus. I appreciate the prople that hate this gun and welcome them to keep ranting as they are helping the prices to stay low and when I am ready to buy my wifes next pistol that will come in handy.

Ha ha ha! Right on!!!! :D

My first guns were revolvers so the trigger pull was a non-issue. The Sigma is one of the very, very few polymer frame guns that I own. No issues at all with it. The grip angle just makes it feel very good in the hand.

This discussion has me thinking I'll buy a Sigma. I don't own any S&W semi-auto's and it looks like prices on these are pretty reasonable.

I asked the local gun ship owners why folks dislike Sigma's. All said that it's a heavy trigger but that they seem to be reliable and an excellent value.

Excellent results with mine....

Went to the range this morning with my brand new Sigma 9VE....
Ran off 100 rounds...slow fire...rapid fire...without a hiccup of any kind....
The trigger will take some getting used to, but I'm a revolver guy anyway so no big deal...
Besides, I did not buy the Sigma to be a target pistol...
Very pleased at $275 out-the-door after rebate...
Great value...

I took my SW40VE out to the range yesterday. This was the first time out for the pistol. I bought the Sigma about six weeks ago. Anyway, I ran a 100 rounds at slow fire and did not have any issues. The trigger was not a problem. Like Kapuna I am a revolver guy. I also had my model 10 and my old Ruger Police Service Six. The triggers on all three were not very different. All longer than a single action. My Sigma was very controllable just like my two revolvers. For the money I don't think you can beat a Sigma either in 9mm or 40SW.
I am a happy Sigma owner.

You are now part of a HUGE group of people who are satisfied Sigma owners who purchased, used and kept them in spite of the opinions of others.

Well you know what they say about opinions:

Opinions are like a certain body part... Everyone has one and they usually stink!

As a former Sigma owner, I'll never touch one again. I just didn't care for it at all.

However, different strokes for different folks as they say. I'd never begrudge someone for wanting / buying a Sigma. There are plenty of other non-Sigma firearms I have the same attitude about.

Issues with my SW9VE right out of the box! Any Suggestions?

:confused:Picked a SW9VE Allied Forces Edition on Friday and went to the range Saturday. First 10 rounds went through flawless... Second mag after 4 shots, feed issue. Noticed that the round was stuck trying to feed into the chamber... this happened several times (only shot 50 rounds). Using Remmington 15gr FMJ's.Also had 1 stove pipe as well... My brother, who is a grunt, said it may be the mag or the gun may have been dry and needed to be cleaned and oiled... I took it home and cleaned it and noticed there was pretty dry and pretty dirty (for only shooting 50 rounds). Oiled and cleaned... Taking it back to the range in a few days to see if it helps...

Any other thoughts on what could have caused a brand new, right out of the box gun to perform this way. Has anyone else had this issue with this model?

I must say though, when it did fire, it was very accurate and fun to shoot...

Hope this issue is not a recurring thing!

I know you didn't mean 15gr. I suspect you meant 115grs.
I had a few failure to feeds with 155 gr. when my 40VE only had about 100 rnds thru it. 165 and 180gr. no problems at all. Decided to let the gun break in a bit more before I tried 155s again.
Don't know if the something similar would happen with the 9mm, but you might want to try different weights.

Not to say it's not a mag problem, but swap mags and ammo to verify.

Sigmas like to run 'dry'. Drop of oil on the 4 metal pieces on the frame, and a drop on top of the barrel.

Any new gun should be cleaned and properly lubricated when taken out of the box, BEFORE shooting. Magazines, too.

Last gun to get cussed out on the range was a brand-new Kimber.
"Why should I have to clean it, it's brand new?"
sigh.........

I'd like to quote at least 3 posts to this thread, but to make a long story short.
Firearms from the factory are lubed with a preservative. Some are not even cleaned from their test firing. I always clean any new firearm and lube it before firing. Cleaning for the obvious reason and lubing because preservative oils are different from lube oils.
I've not had any problems with magazines, but if you need to clean and lube use silicone and wipe them down inside and out.

I had a few light primer strikes and a stovepipe if the first 100 rounds. This was to be my EDC so I sent it back. They opened up the throat, polished the feed ramp, replaced the recoil rod and spring and "adjusted" the trigger. After about 1200 malf free rounds the striker broke. Looking at it you could see a flaw in the metal and S&W (L&S this time) assured me dry fire won't break anything and they also did another trigger job. I have put at least 400 more malf free down the pipe, polished the sear where the pin rides up and down. It is not just OK but really a good trigger. I bought this one about two years ago and bought my wife one about 7-8 months ago. Her trigger is very good right out the box. I believe S&W are putting out a fine weapon and to the nay sayers, y'all are missing the boat if you're looking for a safe, reliable self defense weapon. It's not an H&K and an H&K ain't a Les Bear and etc. I'll not bash Glock (I do however refer to the Sigma as the "Made In USA" Glock. Tounge in cheek of course), it's a matter of choice. We're all on the same side here!
