I was wondering how many of you EDC a revolver with that safety? How many of you carry a key for said lock on your keychain?

I’ve not seen a case where the lock had any impact in a sd situation.

I don’t like the lock and wouldn’t buy a gun with the lock, but because of aesthetics, not because it has any impact on function.

I have 3 revolvers with the lock, 442-2, 638-3 and a 315NG, but I don't currently EDC any of them.

However I do have a lock key on my key ring because you never know when it might come in handy.

Been on there for years.

Probably just differing terminology, but that internal lock is not designed to be a safety.

It is a lock to disable the revolver for those who do not have a lock box.

Totally unnecessary as anyone who is unable to afford a safe can buy a box, bolt it to the shelf, secure the box with a pad lock, or use the cable lock that is supplied with nearly every gun sold now. Hell, you can even get a cable lock for free from some "do-gooder" groups online.

In any event, the internal lock is for storage, not to be a safety while carried. I am sure you did not mean that, but in case you did, I think it is a bad idea to lock it and then try to use the key in an emergency.

I have a 3inch 686-6 plus that I carry on my days on my days off. Never occurred to me to carry a key. I have six with the lock including a 642. Never been an issue with any of them. I have nine pre lock revolvers. I seldom carry any of them.

I feel that they are essential. I keep mine locked at all times, even when carrying and for safety, I don't carry a round under the hammer either. It makes me feel like I am doing my part toward proper firearms safety. It also gives me time to consider the situation before deploying a deadly weapon against another human being! Just Kidding!!!

Like wfparys I like the older guns and dont have any with the lock so the key is not an option for me.

I’ve got three S&W’s with the lock that I’ve never used. The keys are still in the boxes the revolvers came in. My EDC Model 442-2 does not have the lock, just one more thing to go wrong. I don’t need the lock, I don’t have any children around the house, I do have a gun safe, and I never point any of my firearms at anything I don’t want to destroy.

I have a Model 60 with a lock. I prefer to carry my 2 1/2” Model 66 or 3” 686+ If I carry a revolver, but I have carried the Model 60 from time to time with .357 Mag ammo.

I’ve also shot it extensively on the range with .38, .38 +P and .357 Mag ammo and have never had an issue with the lock.

I hear rumors of it unintentionally activating itself under recoil, but I’ve never seen it in the steel frame Model 60.

Got me, had me going there for the first couple of sentences!
