After seeing Chuck24's post I thought I'd relay my story for you. A couple of years ago we were forecasted about 6 inches of snow so I thought I'd give this a try. I took one of those cheap tarps you get from Harbor Freight and spread it out over my front steps. I figured if it didn't work I'd just have to shovel the steps anyway. We had about 8 inches of snow. After the snow, I went out, grabbed the tarp at the bottom of the steps ( I have 4 steps) and slowly slid it down the steps and out into the front yard where I dumped the snow. It worked perfectly and the steps were clean and I didn't have to shovel at all. Give it a try and see if works for you as well as it did for me.

All thread stealing BS aside, l asume the same would be true of driveways. They would have to be weighed down for wind and might be to heavy to move. But it would save a whole lot of shoveling.

If you have a dog or cat that needs to go outside to do his "business" put down a 6x6 or so tarp near the bottom of the steps or near the door and pull it up after the snow to expose a cleared area.
That way Fido can go out and relieve himself without having to plow through the snow. He'll thank you for it!

I don't believe I would have said that.

but she enjoys the exercise; so, it is okay.

you sure that shovel didn't get bent over your noggin?

Nope she bought that one already bent. She says it is much easier on the back and she loves it. I hate the silly thing and have one that has a normal straight handle. These days I follow the snow blower and she gets the steps and and does a little cleanup with her bent handle shovel.

When my son moved to Charlotte, NC, we had a game - one of us would load his snow shovel on the large U-Haul truck and he'd take it off, saying he wouldn't need it. As you may have guessed, when we got to Charlotte, the shove was on the truck. A few weeks later, Charlotte got hit with a storm that dropped a few inches on the ground. Mike was the only person in his neighborhood that had a shovel and a clean driveway. :D

I just got an idea. A tarp with magnets to go over the roof and windows of the car.

Several years ago an ice storm hit and my truck was totally covered with about 1/4" of ice! It took over an hour just to get off enough ice to be able to open the doors to get inside and start the truck. With the engine running, the defroster was able to melt the ice off the windshield. I decided then and there, it wouldn't happen again.

I got a tarp large enough to cover the truck. I also got about 20 of the super magnets. I made a small canvas bag for each magnet and sewed the magnets into the bags. I put canvas "pull tab" on each bag to facilitate the removal of the magnets from the metal side s of the truck. Works super. When a storm is forecast, the truck is covered and the magnets hold the tarp in place, even with winds. After any storm or blizzard, my truck is ready to go in about 10 minutes.

Will it work on solicitors??

Probably not but my buddy's m29 did. He just got home from the night shift. A solicitor knocked on the door. His wife answered and the guy stuck his foot in the door. My buddy listened to the conversation. He put on his shoulder holstered m29 and ran down the stairs to the front door swung open the door and asked the clown if there is a problem. My buddy was a tunnel rat in nam. He wasn't wrapped to tight before nam. He's a good guy just don't push his button.

The tarp trick sounds good my misses does it on the cars.

I was gonna try the tarp to cover the cab and hood of my little pickup. It's outside all the time and I really hate chipping the ice and sweeping the snow off it in winter. I was gonna bungee the thing down to the front bumper and rear wheels but the plan was never implemented. It's been real cold but not much pecip.. Maybe a whole truck cover would be easier.
