Well, it's snowing again in the waste land of Minnesota. We will break the record today for the snowiest Feb. I have to go to work today (part time). Seems that I'm always scheduled on the day that it snows. Pirelli tires on my car really suck in the snow. It goes through the snow OK and stops OK but cornering is really bad. I shouldn't be able to do doughnuts in a four wheel drive car (with traction control).

We had thunder storms and flooding from the system that brought the snow. The last to blow through was so severe it shook and rattled the windows of my apartment.

I feel for ya Maddogmax. Would not care to live there. Got a cousin that lives in Ramsey. Am lucky here in the northeast with no snow in Dec and Jan. Something like 25 inches below normal so far. Might consider a move to Florida or even the Carolinas. I am!!

Maybe it's old fashioned these days, but "Snow Tires" worked very well for us when we lived in Switzerland. We swapped out all four tires every winter.

This photo was taken at a pass in the Alps, with dozens of steep, 180 degree hairpin turns along the way.

Yep, same here with all time record snowfall this Winter, and more on the way. Poor deer are really having a hard time with having to plow trails with their bodies to create trails...won't be a bud left on any tree branches that the deer can reach. Forest regeneration is a real problem here with all the young trees consumed the year they sprout...beats the floods some folks have to deal with for sure.

I'm running out of space to pile it, that after a balmy January.
Ya, I hear you. Same problem. My snow blower can't throw the snow over the high drifts.
Biggest problem is driving. You' think that cars with MN or Wisc plates would know how to drive in this stuff. But nooooo. Leave more time to get where you're going, slow down, leave proper distance between cars and allow for more distance to stop. Do that stuff and we'll all get there without insurance claims. :o

The problem is that many manufacturers put low profile sporty tires on their new cars on oversize rims. My 2014 Explorer bought in New England with 4 wd came with Very low profile hankook tires on 20" rims. The first winter we had record snowfall and I had to be at work 6am before anything was plowed. I was lucky not to have any accidents but I did a lot of spinning around though I had 4wd trucks since 1988. I wasn't used to being scared to drive. So I got 4 blizzak snow tires on 18" rims and that worked out fine. More tire and tread and less rims worked out beautifully. Maybe that could work out for your car Mydogmax! Or maybe studded snows instead. Here we have to wait till October to put them on and they have to be off by May (studded ones). What a difference! I'm lucky to have garage to store them though.. Maybe you do too. Just make sure that the dealer approves the switch in format to different size rims if you need to switch. Blizzaks only came in max 18" tires and those were the ones I wanted as they're rated well for ice also.

Unfortunately, snow tires seem to be a specialized item now and might have to be special ordered in some sections of the US. What most vehicles come with are "all season" tires that really aren't. I recall watching a Jeep spin all 4 wheels/OEM tires and be unable to move on a road I was driving on handily with more aggressively treaded tires. I really miss the old Firestone Town and Country snow tires.

And no, living in an area where snow is common doesn't automatically mean people can drive in it. Short version: it's too darn easy to get a drivers license in the US.

Oh yeah, the bleeping mandated tire pressure sensors drive the prices of complete spare wheel sets up.

Yesterday we got an inch or two.
The Sun is shining, it's gone.
Another storm is coming off the Pacifico,
More on the way.
Hold on - Pacifico is Beer!
Nevermind!

Yep another snowy day here in WI. Seemed before the new year it was mild... and since then between snow storms and mornings of 30 below (before windchill) it seems mother nature has a thing called payback. And it isn't pretty lol.

We will probably be around our yearly snow total average after today.... yet spring does not start tomorrow so we have that going for us haha

just got back into the house from shoveling the current 10 inch snow... piling up high... had to shovel the piles in places so I could put more on top... more freezing rain/snow coming Friday thru Monday morning... it is getting old... skipped work today... just hoping my back allows me to go in to work tomorrow... so ready to retire at this point... just a little short on money and how to cover health insurance until medicare kicks in... guess I just need 13 more years...lol

Yep,,,Getting snow right now! Suppose to be getting 3-6" before turning to rain sometime tonight? Then temps are suppose to be in the 50's tomorrow?
Go figure?

46 and sunny here in the desert but rain coming again Thursday. We don't get snow here but we have been getting a lot of rain this winter and people out here aren't used to driving on wet roads. They have been getting a good bit of snow in northern AZ and our water table is expected to rise back close to normal after the melt off but we'll see.

SNOW!!!! What's the problem? I haven't noticed any mosquitoes when I've been out with the snow blower..

My ice cream cone doesn't melt nearly as quick.

The snow really looks nice...(Looking at from the inside out the front window).

I DON"T HAVE TO GO TO WORK.

It'll all be gone by June.

It's sure saved on the A/C bill.

I do miss going to the mall and seeing all the young gals sporting their summer clothes.
