Maybe it's old fashioned these days, but "Snow Tires" worked very well for us when we lived in Switzerland. We swapped out all four tires every winter.
Ya, I hear you. Same problem. My snow blower can't throw the snow over the high drifts.
The problem is that many manufacturers put low profile sporty tires on their new cars on oversize rims. My 2014 Explorer bought in New England with 4 wd came with Very low profile hankook tires on 20" rims. The first winter we had record snowfall and I had to be at work 6am before anything was plowed. I was lucky not to have any accidents but I did a lot of spinning around though I had 4wd trucks since 1988. I wasn't used to being scared to drive. So I got 4 blizzak snow tires on 18" rims and that worked out fine. More tire and tread and less rims worked out beautifully. Maybe that could work out for your car Mydogmax! Or maybe studded snows instead. Here we have to wait till October to put them on and they have to be off by May (studded ones). What a difference! I'm lucky to have garage to store them though.. Maybe you do too. Just make sure that the dealer approves the switch in format to different size rims if you need to switch. Biggest problem is driving. You' think that cars with MN or Wisc plates would know how to drive in this stuff. But nooooo. Leave more time to get where you're going, slow down, leave proper distance between cars and allow for more distance to stop. Do that stuff and we'll all get there without insurance claims.
Suppose to be getting 3-6" before turning to rain sometime tonight? Then temps are suppose to be in the 50's tomorrow?
