Is there such a thing?

If so, I think I've got it. I carry a 36, recently picked up a 629-5 (2-1/2" barrel, fixed sights), and just today, stumbled on this:

Its a 940 (in 9mm obviously). I figured I have 38spl and 44mag covered, why not add a more obscure revolver caliber in 9mm!

Anyone else feeling the love of the snubby?

Oh I think snubbies are well loved around here.
That M940 is a nice pick up. Don't see them too often and when I have they wanted a quite a few pennies for them.

Snubbies are grand and have a real place in my home.

I just picked up this Model 40 Centennial (1975) for my daughter's first CCW... and she loves it.

I have this newest acquisition, inbound. It's the Night Guard .45acp. Shot a friends and fell in love!

Always carried a Commander (+30 years) and am switching over to revolvers, now.

My EDC....M&P340 w/Dymondwood grips and the "disability" of IL.....

In my opinion you just can't beat a snub. Carried everything from .32acp-.45acp. But the one thing that ALWAYS manages to come with me daily (on and off duty) is a model 36. Probably always will...It's a special kinda feeling when you can walk out of Walmart at 0dark30 with your hand in your pocket holding 5 for sure.

I've had a 40+ year love affair with snub-nosed revolvers now starting with my first off-duty gun, a Model 36 Chiefs Special.

I just picked up this PC 627 yesterday and my plan is for it to soon become my primary carry gun after I give it a good workout at the range. My backup is the M&P 340.

Congrats. The 940 is pretty much ballistically considered one of the Holy Grail of J-frame snubbies!

Thanks! This one is a no dash and seems to be in very good condition, neither shot nor carried much.

It rode around today in a Crossbreed Supertuck IWB and wasn't half bad. Still no range report, but that will come.

Any advice on moonclips? (I need more than one)

Also, this one was $645 to my ffl. No box, one moonclip. How'd I do?

Thanks

I highly recommend a Dillon Precision or similar moon clip loading/unloading tool. It makes the job much easier.

If you don't want to spend a bundle, I found this nifty tool on the Brownells site. The link below is to the mandrel for your revolver. You'll need to also buy the tool itself to use it.

hey XTROOPER

I like that leather-bound lie-detector in your photo, too. (At least that's what we called them in the prison service many years ago) Not PC today, but still work just as good.

Yeah, they were a handy tool. I missed them when we had to retire them.

That little one is the Bucheimer "Midget" I used to carry when in plainclothes. Its big brother was carried in the special pocket made for it in our uniform trousers from back in the day.

Nice revolver and not a thing wrong with the caliber! I always have my 36 on minimum to back up my Colt Commander.

I caught the fever a long time ago. My current crop includes a Colt Cobra (circa '68), S&W Model 38 no dash, S&W 638-3, S&W Model 19 2.5" and I'm about to aquire a 442 no dash.

There's no cure . . .

Know what you mean about the snubs - picked up a Model 66 2 1/2 inch; same vintage as my old Model 66 4 inch I used to carry and still have.

Another fan of "short nosed" Smiths here. My humble collection for your consideration...

I caught that fever myself a few years back and snubs always get my attention.
I have Models 36, 37, 49, 19, 66, 10, 15, 686, 24 and 629 plus one Taurus in .41 mag. That's after I traded off the Colts, Rugers and a couple S&Ws.
Yeah and I'll probally buy more too.

I thought I saw one for sale recently, so I went back through some "for sale" threads on a forum in Tennessee. There was a 940-1 for sale on there for $700. I would say you got a fair price. B

As far as 2" barrels go, I have the 60, 940 and 64. The 60 will handle any .38 Special round that is commercially offered. The 940 is capable of some astounding velocity, as far as the 2" barrel is concerned, but you need good chambers and proper handloads to do it. The 64 can not handle the heavy stuff but you do get one extra round and I feel the 2" K Frame is underrated as a pocket gun.

I am trying to have a 2" barrel installed on a stainless steel 625 frame. Handloaded .45 Super equivalent loads in my 3" 625 lead me to the conclusion that the 2" barrel should yield enough velocity to make the whole thing worthwhile.

The moonclips that Brownells sells for the 940 are very satisfactory. Empty cases are not that hard to remove from the clips with just the fingers but I do have a de-mooner made from a piece of copper pipe.
