Spam (meat) alert!

I live only an hour or so drive from the Jersey shore and have never heard of Taylor Ham.

Sent from my XT1650 using Tapatalk

I am just down the road (live in DE), and work in Delco, and can tell you that Taylor Ham is alive and well in the area, and is without a doubt, my favorite meat on a breakfast sandwich!

I hope I never have to eat spam again. I had it as a youth. I haven't had it again.

I was in the Army until the early 80's. We had good food. I don't remember being offered Spam.

Offered Spam? Offered ? That's a new one. I don't remember
being "Offered" anything. They rolled it off a truck, drug it out
of a APC or threw it out of a Huey. Offered? Offered? I am
shocked, shocked I tell you, that you weren't Offered spam.:D:confused:

Researching the Taylor Ham vs. Spam question, I found one reviewer who opined that Taylor ham was preferred by "people who did not want to admit that they liked Spam". Many reviewers claim that there is little difference, except that the Taylor "Ham" originally came in a cloth sack like a real ham is sometimes packaged, which makes it look more upscale.

BTW, I love ParadiseRoad's vintage Spam ads. Look like some excellent recipes there...and who can argue with George Burns and Gracie Allen?

Supper ready....pretty swell
Spam 'n' waffles ring the bell!!

Best Regards, Les

I've been poisoned by food before. I was on the road and I hit a Mexican fast food joint. I think it hit me about 4-6 hours after I ate the contaminated food. That was most excruciating. Like Rosanna Rosanna Dana, I thought I was gonna die. The person I was traveling with got nailed about 4 hours after I did, same symptoms. All together I think it lasted about 6 hours and I was totally over it.

I don't think you had a very severe case of food poisoning. I had severe cramps, diarrhea, vomiting and a fever. Literally puts you down like a bad case of the flu.

Here's hoping you never get a bad case of food poisoning.

I had a severe reaction to food poisoning when I was in college. Same symptoms as you had-but even worse. I missed a weeks worth of classes, and even today, I still have problems. I ate bad pizza. I think it took about 4-5 hours before I was projectile-vomiting and I spent most of the night in the restroom.

I got sick just reading the the posts in this thread.

Never tried the stuff and never will.

Just curious, how/why would you get sick thinking about a food you have never even tasted? Are you Sam I am who has never tried - but still doesn't like - green eggs and ham? :)

Spam really isn't bad. Not gourmet food, but not bad. If you've ever tried spiced ham lunchmeat it is about the same thing, just an unsliced loaf of it - packaged in a can.

EDIT: I went back a read a couple of posts that I missed the before and now I get where you're coming from...

If I thought I could safely post it here, you might be disinclined to eat the traditional Masai diet. Nor would I care for Korean kimchee or no doubt, many other non-Anglo foods. Come to that, I have no desire for blood pudding or haggis.

Depending on why the Seuss eggs are green, maybe better pass on those, too. :D

Les-

Thanks for asking. It's been over 24 hours now, and I never got sick. I hope the risk is past.

I have two cases of regular spam in my food stash. Stored in a cool dry place. They say it lasts for ever that way.

That is correct... cuz no one will ever eat the stuff!!!

I rate Spam and vodka martinis as equals. I try each about every 20 yrs just to humor myself. The last Spam I tried was the jalapeno variety. Peppers in it didn't help a bit. Still wouldn't poison a coyote with it... or with a vodka martini!

Wow, scary....

You will unmistakably know if something was bad.:(
If you start feeling weak, vision gets blurred, trouble speaking get help right away.

Don't allow yourself to get dehydrated or your kidneys can fail, like mine did.:(:(:(

Fortunately it was caught in time, my kidneys came back but they are compromised so I had to add a nephrologist to my list of doctors.
