Storing Guns in Hard cases

Right now I don't have a gun safe, so I have been storing all my rifles in hard cases with internal foam.

I have read that the foam can absorb moisture and rust the guns.. Aghhh!

Don't really have room for a safe, but I am thinking of putting the guns in a silcone gun sleeve, then in the case, and also putting a silcone Gel container inside the case with the gun.

Anyone else have good luck with doing this?

i store several guns this way and never had any problems with rust or other.....

I have a safe, which I paid to much for, but I do still store guns in their original plastic gun cases. I most always wrap the gun in a cloth rag before putting it in the case though. I have yet to have one rust.

Even with a safe you still have to deal with humidity which will rust gun metal. You can buy a big bag of cat litter that is 100% silicon crystals for $16. Fill a can with the litter and put it in the safe. It will absorb the humidity moisture.

I also suggest buying a safe with an combination lock rather than a electronic keypad. Electronic keypads are the first thing to fail on a safe and most electronic pads only have a one year warranty.

You can get a decent safe for $500. I bought the big name brand hoopla and it cost me $1300. The safe is no better than a $400 safe from Academy.

Stack on safes usually IMO are cheaply made and I sure wouldn't pay $600 for one. Go to Academy and check their safes for prices and build quality. I have just bought a Stack On 8 gun rifle safe that is key locked and I paid $85 out the door from Dick's sporting store. Yep it's quality is worth about what I paid. But it did the job of opening more room in my safe for handguns. Check out their safes also.

Mine are all stored in hard cases. I wrap them in gun wrapping paper, put in a silicon bag or two and check them quarterly.

I use some hard cases, both the manufacturer's and some Plano type; but I make an addition to each one.

I wipe down the guns with a generous amount of G-96 gun treatment, after the recommendation of a long time gun show seller. I asked him how he kept the finish so nice on guns that were handled so much at shows.

The other thing I just started doing with the hard cases is to use regular Cut-Rite wax sandwich wrap and isolate both sides of the gun away from direct contact with the foam.
I got the wax paper idea from a G/B seller who sent a nice '27', wrapped several times in wax paper, followed by multiple wraps of news print paper, (not inked).

Too early for a determination just yet, but keeping a close check, and no hint of a problem so far.
