Tonight is bitter-sweet as I'm taking off my badge and hanging up my gun for the last time. I began my career in LE in 1976 as a campus cop, then an Army MP, small town cop, housing authority cop, deputy sheriff, border patrolman, state parole officer and since 1988 I've been with the U.S. Customs Service, then Customs & Border Protection. Now some 38 years later, 30+ with "Uncle" I'm heading off in some new directions. I'll be doing more gun writing, more shooting, hunting, fishing and I have a list of chores long as my arm. I'm proud to have been an LEO and having served my community, state and country. My hat's off to all those who are part of the "Thin Blue Line" as it's a tough job today...stay safe brothers and sisters!

I retired about 5 years ago. I missed it for about month. On occasion thought about it for 3 months and now the other interests have taken over so much that when I run across a piece of LEO gear it sort of startles me that I was once in that business. And you will get so busy that you will wonder how in the world you had enough time to "work". :-) Thanks for your service, now go enjoy yourself. ...... Big Cholla

From east-central Indiana, Thanks for your service and enjoy
your retirement sir.
It will probably be a tough couple months but i'm sure you'll
get the hang of retirement pretty quick after that.

Man, do I envy you a little! I still have a little over 8 years to go. I'm not sure that I will retire as soon as possible, since I'd still have 10 years until I could draw on it.
Enjoy your retirement, you've earned it.

Congratulations on your retirement and do all those things you wanted to do. I decided this past Spring to do the same and now realized I really do miss Patrolling the small town where I worked. As someone on this forum said "... the only bad thing about retirement is you don't ever have a day off". Enjoy!

You now have 365 days off, what you choose to do with them is entirely up to you.
You now no longer have to worry about seniority when taking a vac day(s)! ;)

Bill,

Welcome to the "WuzzFuzz" ranks. As stated by others above, it takes a little while to fully "retire". But you'll like it.

But once a LEO, always a LEO. You'll find that you'll still look over your shoulder, look at car lic plate numbers, and give some characters a second look. But that's ok, it's in your blood for ever now.

Congratulations on your retirement.

Congrads. X2 what Wuzz Fuzz said. As a Reserve I worked weekends mostly. On Friday nights Id still like to put my uniform on and go on patrol. Uniform still fits. Hope you have a good time and enjoy. You earned every bit of it.
