The 1 that you could take anywhere

For nearly 50 years I have carried a 4" barreled, N frame, chambered for the 45 ACP, currently a Model 22-4. I see no reason to change things now.

The only problem I see with this is pocket carry when attire and weather may dictate. That is why I also would be in favor of a 642 size/weight gun as a single revolver option for self protection.

Not to mention they are cheap, especially when used, and rather plentiful under "normal" circumstances.

I guess more over a personal choice, what is the 1 gun that is legal across the country?

I'm no expert, but I imagine if you're covered under LEOSA you have a bit more latitude than the rest of us. As Seadragon said, there are a lot of variables as far as what's legal, by whom, and where.

But I would imagine that if one is able to legally carry in all 50 states, a DA revolver would probably be about as close to universal as one could get.

Just a guess.

Interesting topic. I have had a LEOSA permitt for about 9 years and usually have a P32 or Seecamp .32 in my pocket with a larger gun in my Truck door.

After reading this thresd, I think I may be more comfortable with a "PC" revolver like this model 60-15, 5 shot "slab side", 38/357. When I do carry this gun I load it with the old FBI load [.38 +P, 158 grn, SWC, HP, cast lead bullet (although some semi jacketed rounds are shown in this photo)]. I would switch to non-HP loads for NJ.

This gun is one of the most accurate S&W revolvers I have and I really like it in spite of the one (I am not bashing it ) feature I won't talk about.

... Taking a firearm through TSA isn't too big of a deal. You'll just need a good hard sided lockable case with TSA approved locks. I picked up a Boyt case at Bass Pro, but Harbor Freight has some that would work a lot cheaper...
My experience with two identical looking small lockable cases, both bought on eBay for about $22. They were both 9.5 x 6.5, black steel with foam and combo lock.
The first case was of thin steel, arrived with the top partly mashed down into the bottom, and a cheap feeling lock that had come loose from the top. I returned that case for refund.
The second was of heavy gauge steel, with reinforcing strips welded on the edges of the bottom to positively locate the top, and a good lock. It is a high quality item and I like it:

I carry on the retired LEO permit! HR218 and live very close to Nj and NY. Both have restrictive laws. NJ has magazine restrictions and prohibits hollow points. NY has magazine restrictions. I'm sure many other states have the same. At home I carry whatever I choose, but going interstate in my home region I carry a 1911 with 7 round magazines or a five shot .38/.357 all loaded with Hornady critical defense.

Not LEOSA here, and certainly not going to try to carry in NY, NJ, or other places outside of the Republic. Even though I normally carry a 9mm semi-auto at home, previously a Kahr PM9 and now a Sig P365, when I travel by air I pack a 642 or 442.

Why?

Easier to show most any ticket agent that it is clear just by opening the cylinder. I don't need to carry extra mags, just a box of ammo and a couple of empty speed strips. I am also assured that no matter how much I am dressed down or dressed up that I can easily carry it.

My Model 65. A factory DAO bobbed hammer gun.

Well thats good to know...

You are looking for a simple straightforward answer; unfortunately, there isn't one.

Firearms laws are complicated. In some locations, ammunition laws add to that complexity.

There is no easy way to approach this, other than doing your own research on your intended destination. Trying to short cut this process could land you in a bad place with a lot of bad people who will do lots of bad things to you.

It would have to be this one.

Model 25-5. I did replace the large target grips with Altamont bonded ivory. Even my Better Half says that make the revolver easier to handle but she doesn't care much for the longer barrel.

Add a grip adapter. They greatly improve the feel of the stocks.

For Smith & Wesson, my 5" 10-5.

For any revolver, my 4" NMBH 45/45 convertible.

I would not intend to carry either concealed. Just two revolvers I could take anywhere and find ammo for.

For me it would be my 649, it rode in my pocket for years doing graveyard.

I'd like to say my 3" 686+, but that would be too heavy and bulky to conceal at work.

I really like my 2 5/8" 657, but same issue, at work I can't hide it, so like the 686, its limited to a homestead or camping/hiking role.

Then I have a 2" model 10, which is pretty nice. I like the extra shot but honestly I carry my 649 more, so I guess that would be my choice.
