The dreaded lock question!

Ok, this is not your usual lock question thread.

Do any of you actually use your lock on occasion or actually like it?

Please don't tell us how much you hate the lock or I will have to ask the admins to lock this thread, no pun intended .

If you don't use it just be polite and say something to the effect of "I have no use for it." or "I don't use it." or even "I have removed it for carry reasons." or "I don't care for it one way or the other.", just as long as it's not "That ---------------------------------------------------------!" well you get the idea!

I use the lock regulary in my non-carry revolvers. I like the lock from the view it is a no-brainer to keep the revolver locked if I leave it on my work bench and the grandkids drop by unexpectidly. There are other locks that can be used, but this one is always there. I've never had a problem with any of my revolvers, and I have, or had 8 with the locks that I shot/shoot regularly

About the first thing I do with a new S&W is remove the lock. I had the lock self employ on an AirWeight years ago locking the gun up tight so I simply remove them now -- problem solved.

I own quite a few with the lock but have never even tried the feature. My guns rest in a locked safe when not in use. In fact, I never really experienced the lock in action until this past fall when I met a gent to purchase a 617. When I inspected the gun, I went to try the trigger and it was like it was welded sight. I struggled with it a few seconds (duh) before the owner jumped in and unlocked it. To be honest, I found it unsettling that I had expected the gun to work and it didn't. I try not to think about the lock these days.

p.s. Good thread topic! I'm interested in those who do use and like the lock.

My only S&W with the lock is my 360. Love the gun, don't pay any attention to the lock, never intend to use it, so to me it's a non-issue

I tried the loc function once. But my s&w are range guns only there worth too much to ccw carry.

I don't use the lock. I can understand that it might be useful for some folks, but I have a safe that I use, instead. I would also be very concerned about keeping track of that key...

I have 2 Smiths with the lock, 686-6 and 29-10, range guns only. Have never used the lock on either gun. Don't intend to ever use the lock. Have never taken the keys out of the cellophane wrapper that they ship in. Try to ignore the lock hole as much as possible.

I had one lock on a scandium 360 lock or rather half lock itself. Sold all my S&Ws that had the lock after that incident.

If S&W won't remove the lock I wish they would at least consider relocating them under the grip panel, like Ruger does with their locks.

I've had two recent S&W revolvers with the lock, never once used them, the keys remained inside the box. I've also never had the locks disable either gun unintentionally.

I always wondered why S&W only equips revolvers with locks, and not the semi-auto pistols and rifles they sell. Other manufacturers have equipped their semi-autos with keyed locks. My Springfield Armory 1911 with the ILS in the mainspring housing comes to mind; never used that one either and ended up replacing it with an aftermarket part. Why not just provide the same cable lock with their revolvers?
