Looking at what they go for and as big as CCW mania is these days I do not know why they don't bring back the 3.5" model and maybe even offer it in the eight shot version as well. They did the 4" model a few years back in the eight shot version but I guess they didn't sell that well. I bet the 3.5" would sell better.

Lew Horton sold a "Registered Magnum" Model 27 from the Performance Center in a 3 1/2 barrel that was a 8 shot revolver. There was a nickel one on GB while back, that was a reasonable BIN ($1500.??) Didn't sell, probably more like me, just couldn't get past that lock.

Lew Horton sold a "Registered Magnum" Model 27 from the Performance Center in a 3 1/2 barrel that was a 8 shot revolver. There was a nickel one on GB while back, that was a reasonable BIN ($1500.??) Didn't sell, probably more like me, just couldn't get past that lock.

I had watched that one as well. It was up for some time. The cylinder ratchet on those 8's just look so delicate. It may just be a mental hang up, but I have seen one "tweeked" inexplicably. The top straps on those appear to be laser etched instead of checkered which is a bit tacky. The bluing isn't as nice as older guns, either. The hole I can live with.

Heck, I might as well jump on the band wagon too. Here's
my first year of production, pre-27 with a 3.5" bbl. and factory
nickel finish with a set of aged ivory magnas. The H.H. Heiser
holster was made in 1950 for this particular handgun. It came
with special order items such as the hammer guard, rawhide
stitching and an optional belt snap loop on the back.

Not in matters of composition. Strict rules apply. Balance, tension, focal points, more complicated than you would first imagine.

On egotist, well, learn something new everyday. Add that to donator. I was surprised to learn that's a word.

I like "When I want your opinion I'll beat it out of you."

Function comes first.

Bottom line is that aesthetics need to be blended with practicality. The best looking stocks on short N frames are the service style in my opinion, but they sure suck to do any kinda real shooting with, even with a grip adapter.

Everything is a compromise. Art is no good if it bruises your hand. If I wanna look at a gun with prettier stocks I've got the pictures.

While I find Magnas or Service grips slightly more aesthetically pleasing on the 3.5"ers my XL fingers demand targets or presentation grips on the range.

I am "down" to two 3.5" M27-2s. Both are shooters with the blue (1967 Utah Highway Patrol marked) being my favorite. Great guns.

Yes sir,it is. It is true however that many among the intelligentsia may prefer "egoist". I simply prefer the former. As far as you know,or rather in your "expert" opinion,is there an alternative for this one as well?

I bought my one and only 27-2 from a co-worker in 2006. He was selling his "Dad's .357" and wanted to get the full $325 asking price. No haggling required.

I'll take it back...the service stocks look best on the fixed sight guns...the magnas definitely look better on target sighted guns.

With regard the 31/2 inch mod 27 I have 2 revolvers . One is NIB purchased when the bbl length was discontinued , the other was purchased as a used gun .
When I handle mine , I am mind full of G . Gordon Liddy . How ever you may remember him, in his auto biography he had an amusing story regarding mod 27 , 3 1/2 inch bbls . At the time Liddy was in the FBI , the gun was a gift from his wife.
The balance of the 3 1/2 inch is quite good and seems to point in a natural fashion.
The NIB gun was about $500.00 the used was about $ 359.00 purchased some time ago .other 27's came my way on other occasions ,mostly being in the right place at the right time , with a mind set to buy when the time comes.
Living in Canada the market is limited , where as citizens of the U.S. are free to find rarer models in any caliber

I am thrilled to have been able to acquire two M27-2s. The nickel M27-2 came from the factory with targets, apparently ordered that way. The blued one has Kurac Osage Orange stocks because I liked the way it looks.

BTW- I have just under a grand invested in all three. Paid $350 for the blue 27-2, $275 for the blue pre-27, and $350 for the nickel pre-27.

It's not very neighborly to tell us things like that.

I say that the target stocks on a 3.5" N frame are unbalanced, are too big for the rest of the gun, and that's my EXPERT opinion. Of course you or anyone else can offer your opinion in disagreement. But I will stand by my EXPERT opinion.

Nonetheless, an expert opinion is still an opinion. Aesthetics are totally subjective - everybody likes what they like regardless of what other more learned may think. However, I am kinda with you when it comes to target stocks - I don't find them aesthetically pleasing on any gun - to my eye they're one step above firewood.

To add...

If someone told me at the range (as someone always has to tell you something) that artistically speaking, my grips are wrong, they'd get a look something like this:

Wow........ at the risk of offending the "artsy" crowd....... I think the 31/2 inch 27 and the 3inch 19/66s share the same proportions of "barrel to butt".... a ratio that many/most find visually pleasing.

Every time I see a photo of a 3.5 inch 27; my heart flutters and I want one .... then I wonder why I didn't buy 2-3 in the 80s ........ I pick up one of my 3" 66-3/4s .....and remember "Oh that's right these fit my hand better!"


I guess it's too early for wine and cheese.............

My fingers are stubs and the Magnas even suck for me. By forcing the lower 3 fingers so far back, it's harder to get my index finger to the trigger than with factory targets.
