The real, 1960, Ocean’s Eleven, is on TCM as we speak.

When I first saw the original, I thought how cool those places look. Now when I see it, I realize how tiny and ordinary those
hotels/inns were compared to what's in LV today.

But then people dressed nicely and today the strip often looks like it's full of 8th World refugees.

I never saw the old Sands or Desert Inn and the older hotels I saw when I first went to Vegas looked a bit sad. My parents did go out to Vegas in the 60's and stayed at the Sands. My father said it was great. You would get to see and mingle with top stars and performers around the hotel and in the casino. Stars like Danny Thomas were friendly and easy to talk to. The service was also superior to what you will find in Vegas today. Bygone era.

My first trip to Las Vegas was in the mid-1980s. At one casino (don't remember which, but I think it was the Golden Horseshoe), I saw sort of a commotion in the high-rollers room at the Baccarat table. Sammy Davis Jr. was playing. That was the only celeb I ever saw in Vegas outside a showroom. Back in those days, we usually stayed at the Frontier, a great place on the Strip and the rooms were very reasonably priced, across the street from the Circus Circus. It's long gone today. I'm happy I saw (and dropped $ at) the classic old casino-hotels back then, as most of them are now just memories. I especially liked the Sahara. They used to have gun shows there.

Back to the OP, I wasn't aware there was an Oceans 11 before George Clooney, Brad Pitt, Matt Damon, and Julia Roberts! 😙
Next you will tell me that the Sands is gone! 😖

Who is hotter or sexier Angie Dickinson or Julia Roberts? 😏

Fred, My home is being returned to that style (the decorator chick calls it "mid century"). I watch for furniture and fixtures on those movies for guidance. The other stuff I don't really need any tips on....although my suit selection could use some work.;)

I believe MJ2008 is correct.

While I said the hotels/inns looked dinky, it was a time to mingle with the stars and see shows. From what I've read you could wander into a bar and a major star would be performing impromptu.

When I was there in this century, it was all controlled and probably in its way glittering more but dinky in reality.

The Rat Pack at its best.

I'm gonna take a wild guess here and say I bet you watched it earlier this afternoon on Turner Classic Movies.

EDIT: Didn't notice the TCM reference in the title of your post.

Angie or Julia

Angie!!!

I suppose the original could be called a good movie, but I'm not sure it was among Frank Sinatra's best efforts. However, it was far better than what followed.

Some may remember the old mid-1970s TV series "Police Woman" staring Angie Dickinson and Earl Holliman. Angie played detective "Pepper" Anderson, and the name fit - she was hot, hot, hot. A very risque show for the period, wouldn't be today.

I remember that show. Angie was very hot. How about Rio Bravo with John Wayne and Dean Martin? Or the remake of The Killers with Lee Marvin and Ronald Reagan? Reagan went against type and played a bad guy in his last film role I believe. Angie was also shady but hot is ever. Sorry about getting off the thread re. Oceans 11.

Sir, none of the Ocean's movies were ever good movies, but the Original Has a sense of style, that is sadly lacking today, both in movies and society.

"What is that noise?"

One of my all time favorite movies. Danny Ocean had an extremely classy little little group. The Rat Pack be sooo cooool!

I tried to watch the newer version but George Clooney stunk it up so bad I could only take about 20 minutes of it. I find that in this life it is the ORIGINAL of most things that is the best. Certainly the case where that movie is concerned.
