The Russians have gone in

It's a delicate, highly calibrated game. We want Putin to know we are assisting in his butt kicking, but we also don't want to make it too overt. From what I read, the Europeans worry less about provoking him with military assistance than we do.

I think we have it just about right.

Basic problem, Putin and most of his Generals are of the old KGB thought process, most of his " troops" are not. Younger ones have " seen the light" regarding how most of the world is. TV, video games, cell phones, and computer use. nuf sed

We see on our side how well the CIA ran the Bay of Pigs. Things work best when folks learn that neither (essential) discipline has ultimate answers and neither should assume, "I can do that better - how hard can it be?"

Uncle Sam is listening all over the world. Any terrorist who's not using couriers has no secrets.

in the 2000's I built a data center that once completed was turned over to the DOD, it's purpose to screen/intercept all cell phone calls within the US using the SS7 signal carrier (embedded in every cell phone call). Millions of calls a second being run through computer banks looking for 'trigger' words and phrases that if identified go into que for review by the console screeners. Which is why burner phones are the standard for illicit acitivity, no way to trace an owner. As long as they are turned on, however, th ey can be easily and immediately position tracked. I could not have even mentioned this data center until some years ago when it became public knowledge after a senate hearing on wire tapping in the US. Be assured, it goes on 24/7, and it our most valued tool in fighting both criminals and terrorism.

Regarding Russia - now that Ukraine has hundreds of shoot and move mobile howitzers in place, wonder how those cowardly Russian rapists and murders like getting shot back at.
And the Ukraine soldiers are using an app to send messages to Russia every time they register another killed Russian soldier. Name of the app?
"Russian warship, go *#$% yourself

Indeed! Whittle them down just a little more and the ships will stay in Sevastopol. Two down, 18 to go.

Good on Turkey for closing the Straits.
If it's true, that's a ship commissioned only 4.5 years ago, sporting updated radars and countermeasures.

They can pretend they are new submarines.

If you take a quick look at this site Flightradar24: Live Flight Tracker - Real-Time Flight Tracker Map you can find a pop up for most tracked flights. The US, GB, Italy all have electronics intel aircraft in theater. Click on the aircraft in the most tracked and a track of where the aircraft has been will pop up. RC12, EC135 Global Hawks over the Black Sea. Look for the call signs Forte##, Duke##, Yank##, NATO11 and or flights with no origin or destination listed. Also refuelers with the call sign LAGR##. Dosn't look like they are trying to hide.

I think it does, but what do I know? To me, if his Generals kept getting killed and Putin had no idea why, he would be questioning everything and suspecting everybody! I think that would have been a good thing.

I am also a believer in creating uncertainty and doubt in the mind of the enemy. It's the whole sniper ethos, make the other guy worry that death can appear at any time and for no apparent reason. Keeps them off balance.

In the category of necessity being the mother of invention. The French made Mistral anti-aircraft missiles donated by Norway are a bit too large to shoulder launch, so Ukraine crowd-funded new 4x4 pickup trucks to mount the missile launchers to, creating a SAM "Technical".

Germany's new leader has been hesitant to supply Ukraine with it's most potent field pieces. No more. They have now committed sending to Ukraine their PZH2000 Howitzers and training Ukrainians in Germany.

When Russian warships do sail from Crimea, they tend to stay 100 miles or so from the Ukrainian coast, potentially keeping them beyond the range of Kyiv's Neptunes.

Keeping at a safe distance meant the frigates apparently were in no position to help when the Ukrainian navy last week mounted a furious drone assault on the Russian garrison on Snake Island. The tiny hunk of rock, 25 miles off the coast of southwestern Ukraine, helped Kyiv assert some control over the western Black Sea—until the Russians captured it on the first full day of the current war on Feb. 24.

Ukrainian TB-2 drones knocked out Russian air-defenses on the island then went hunting deeper at sea. On Monday, a TB-2 struck two Russian Raptor-class patrol boats with laser-guided missiles, heavily damaging if not destroying both of the 55-foot boats as they motored toward Snake Island.
