Time to do it again? M27 appreciation.

We've seen a beautiful collection of 357s posted here but I didn't see a 27-2 with 6.5" barrel and full target options . . . so am adding this one.

I don't know the history but it do know it shipped in June '72 . . . late for a 6.5" barrel and uncommon with a ramp front sight. If original to the gun, the smooth target stocks, target hammer, target trigger and RR/WO sights make me suspect it was special ordered as shown.

I have managed to accumulate and hang onto a .357-through-Model 27-2 in each barrel length (3-1/2, 4, 5, 6, 6-1/2 and 8-3/8), but have never been able to find an older nickel one with the blue front sight and ramp. I have always thought that combination looks very classy, nicer and more practical to shoot than one with the integral and nickel sights.

I gotta say, I think the shortest ones look the deadliest (!) but if they all had to go but one, my blue 5 incher would be the last. Or, mebbe I'd have my 6-1/2 inch 8 shot 27-7 cut down to 5 inches.

Or... Never run out of great choices with the big S&W .357.

Thanks to you folks who take such nice pictures and post them. I got a new digital camera for Christmas but nobody around here carries film for it...

I love the Model 27 and is the first pistol I ever bought back in 1974 when I turned 18 (which was the legal age to buy a pistol back then). Anyways, here is my little collection of 27's. Some are 27-2 models and a few are newer. But all are great shooters.

My original pistol I bought in 1974, a 5" barrel 27-2 in nickel It has these Cocobolo Ahrends on it now:

This one is my never shot 4" 27-2 I bought a few years ago. Still haven't run any rounds down the pipe on her and it's the only one that's never been shot I own:

My 3 1/2" 27-2 I bought off GB 1 1/2 years ago. She's a shooter grade pistol and isn't the best looking in the world, but she shoots great and I'm happy with her. The Goodyears have since been changed out for a proper set of Ahrends grips and she looks much better:

Next up is my 5" barrel 50th Anniversary 27-3. I bought it a few years ago and it looked ANIB and I've shot around 100 rounds out of it:

Next up is my 6 1/2" barrel "Outnumbered" 27-5 I found on GB a few years ago at a really good price. It's unusual in that while it's a 1991 built pistol it has a recessed cylinder but no pinned barrel like a transition pistol, but the cylinder has the long cylinder stop notches like the modern pistols have. It now wears a set of Cordia wood Ahrends instead of the stock grips in this pic:

Finally, while this one isn't a 27, it's the stainless steel kissing cousin, the 627 Pro. I got it in April of this year and it's a real hoot to shoot. It doesn't look as good as the traditional 27 in my opinion, but 8 shots definitely trumps looks :D It is still wearing the Goodyears, but I foresee a set of Ahrends in the future:

I still want to collect a 6" barrel and a 8 3/8" barrel 27 for my little collection, but that all depends on work and available money.

Wow! Maybe it's where I live or maybe I just wasn't paying attention, but I've never seen M27's out for sale. Back in the 1970's and early 1980's I purchased N frame Smiths in 41, 44, and 45 plus a 44 snub. All were in presentation boxes except the snub. We do have the M28's around here and I have a few. I guess I was just blind to the M27's. Maybe I just couldn't figure out why you needed such a big gun for such a small caliber. I wish I had one now. . .still looking.

M 27-2 "nothing special" but it's awesome to me.... The model 27s are just beautiful guns!
