So I paid a co-worker to swap out my stock M&P 9 trigger with an Apex trigger. He shows up a couple days later with a box of parts, turns out the "plug" filling the slot where a manual safety would be came loose and he tried supergluing it in place. Long story short, he tried using a Dremel to remove excess glue and ended up removing part of the right side groove retaining the sear. I reassembled it myself and was able to seat the sear before sending it to S&W. They signed off on a functional check and returned it.

My problem is, do I ever trust firing it again...It's been checked out by S&W, but it's like there's a cloud hanging over it now. It makes me sick to see it just sitting there and while I'm not crazy about parting it out, it seems better than just letting it sit in the gun safe. My "gunsmith" coughed up the cost of a replacement, got a 2.0, but I was really kind of attached to my Gen1.

Basically I refuse to sell it, don't want to be party to someone possibly getting injured, so it's either leave it to sit, or sell off the barrel & slide so at least they get used.

While I look at it as "constructive paranoia", just curious what anyone else thinks.

Yeah, even after he ponied up for the replacement my BP spikes every time I open the safe and see my brand new 2.0....then the Gen 1 right next to it.

Until it is gone, you win have heartache every time you see or think about it... glue and Dremel - I can imagine a whooping has been administered for less...

After reading the title and first sentence, I knew this wouldn't end well.

I'm sorry for your loss, but to me the pistol would be a write off. Like you, I wouldn't sell it and I probably wouldn't shoot it either. Of course without pictures we really don't know how bad it is.

As long as the co-worker has paid for replacement of the gun, all would be good for me and I would harbor no grudges. I wouldn't let him touch anything else though.

<expletive deleted> ::mad::
Superglue is dissolved by plain old Acetone which may or may not be harmful to the polymer frame (could have checked on the inside of the frame). A replacement frame key plug cost $2 (plus shipping) and would have arrived in about 3 days from Speed Shooters Specialties.

Oh well, at least you got a new gun out of it.

After talking to a local gunsmith this afternoon (an actual gunsmith this time) I just slapped the slide & barrel up for sale. Took no more than 30 seconds and he said "I wouldn't, but then I like my teeth right where they are", then he congratulated me on my self control upon seeing the box of parts. I told him "Well, shooting him was no longer an option". At this point I'll just sell the parts, every time I see it I get ticked all over again. On the upside, I now have a local gunsmith.

@Rostoff....I added the listing to the classifieds ("M&P 9 Parts for Sale...Barrel/Slide & Other Parts") still new to posting here so didn't want to break forum rules coming out the gate. Anyway, figured I'd just sell everything but the frame to a good home. At 250 figured it would give a Gen 1 owner a good "ready spares" kit. The frame I'm going to scrap though, don't want it floating around and keeping it just gets me off again, sat in it four months before deciding to deal with it.

Re-purpose it, make a desk pencil holder or something that people will say "wow, that is really cool".

SEEMED LIKE A GOOD IDEA AT THE TIME?

Don't beat yourself up too bad, we all learn from our mistakes (hopefully) & they keep getting more expensive. "WITH" the functionality letter from S&W "I WOULD" have tried to sell it whole in a hot minute. I HAD a gun that bothered me to look at thanks to a Bubba job by a previous owner. I thought I'd be able to get over it & live with it, WRONG! As is often said about first impressions, the angst only grew worse. No need for that nonsense in your life, you get enough of it already. Even a small $ loss would be $ well spent, IMO.

While I've had several M&Ps , and have a 9mm M&P Pro that came with all sorts of upgrades, I've never really done a detail strip of any of them. Would a new frame from S&W solve your problem? That might be cheapest solution and let you keep the gun you like so much. (I'm not interested in doing ANYTHING with my M&P Pro -- as it's simply outstanding.)

you'll never like the pistol.....get rid of it. had a similar experience with a Ruger single six. a "gunsmith" ruined it putting new sights on.
