I bought an SD9ve and replaced the striker spring, the trigger spring, the plunger spring, and the sear spring. Put in a new trigger (apex) and extended takedown lever. Removed the mag disconnect safety (Calif) and now the gun is GREAT!

How did you remove the mag disconnect safety? That thing is so damn annoying! How many rounds do you have through the gun since these mods?

There a video on how to do it for the SD9VE?

I couldn't find any. I could find videos on removing the mag disconnect on M&Ps, but I don't know if that would be the same process...I've never seen a SDVE pistol with a mag disconnect, so I don't know how it's configured. Can you post a picture of your slide interior, so we can see where the mag disconnect is?

Question: can you legally remove the mag disconnect in California?

The mag disconnects on the Ruger SR series pistols are incredibly easy to remove...wish they were all designed that way. Or didn't come on the gun in the first place!

No idea about the legality. Anyone know about the legality of disabling the magazine disconnect safety? Also, here are some pics of the disconnect safety:

The mag disconnect is the lever in the mag well...it isn't on the slide, like on Ruger SR series pistols. I'm not sure how it would be removed. If you can figure it out, I'd be sure to make sure it isn't illegal in California to have a gun without a mag disconnect. It may be a pain, but it'd be a much bigger pain to get arrested!

That would be quite a hassle. It's just so annoying, 1 to break the fun down 2 it puts a bit of pressure on the magazine so it doesn't just fall out when I want to change mags (biggest annoyance, and with only 10 rounds per mag... *** CA)

sw9ve

my sister in law just received an SW9VE as a gift for home defense purposes from her brother....my brother and his wife are not whatyou woud call "gun enthusiests" however they respect them and are aware that there is nothing better for protecting themselves and their home.considering for all intents and purposes this is a drawer gun i am wondering if i ahould make a big deal out of the plastic guiderod comments please?

Possibly some nite sights and Talon grips are in store for my 9VE. No trigger mods as there's simply nothing wrong with it.

No mods here, bought my SD9VE 8-2-14 and have 850 rounds through it with no issues at all. I've been asked by instructors at the range what I've had done to it, because it shoots so well and is so accurate. Not sure they believe me when I say it's all stock!

Don't plan any modifications to the important functional items but did replace the take down bar with a slightly longer one from ndzperformance. Only a tiny bit longer but a significant difference ease of take down.

I'm not bothered by the trigger pull, over travel, or reset distance- works fine for me. I did have a look at all the pieces involved during trigger pull and found a great improvement just in putting some grease between the trigger bar and the inside of the plastic body. If you watch or feel that area during trigger pull you will see that the bar does rub the plastic.

I don't plan to carry the SD9VE CA version, but just in general I don't want to worry about accidental trigger pulls, light strikes, etc. It's just a fine gun as it is.

Trigger Mod

I have the SW9F and I did is lower the trigger pull down just by removing one spring and it shoots very well with the 17 round clips that came stock with it, so it is legal to carry because of the production date.

If it ain't broke....

I'm one of those who won't change a thing. I don't have a problem with the trigger pull weight or travel distance. And my SD40VE doesn't have the gritty travel distance feel others have had. Basically, I hit what I aim at and love the gun...no need to change. If it ain't broke don't fix it...unless you're an addicted tinkerer like many of those who have to "soup up" their guns in some way.

I love mine. Goes to the LGSR Tuesday to shoot! Just got 200 rds. of Magtech 180 gr. FMJRNFP. from A1ammo with Free shipping.

I have about 250 rds. put through this piece and so far it has had no problems!

That is the question.

Back in the hay day of the mighty Sigma, before the SD and Apex, we discussed this ad nauseum. Some people were removing springs, changing springs, working the dremel, you name it everyone had an opinion.

Now that the SD and Apex are alive and well, how do you guys feel about modifying your gun now?

Opinions and discussion welcome. Please cast your vote! :)
Mine has been flawless in about 800 rounds, why change anything. I personally like the trigger. Coming from a revolver background, the heavy trigger make an accidental discharge much less likely, especially if my wife or other family member had to use it in home defense. It might not be the best choice for competition, but perfect for home defense and a pretty good shooter at the range.

That's exactly how I feel about it. It works like a champ for me, no need to put any money into it, except for ammo.
