Tore My Rotator Cuff

I'm not sure, but I think insurance dictates the "process." They start with PT first now days, then the therapist reports to the doctor her results. (Always get a HER if you can!) Anyhow, that's how they did my 2nd shoulder. It sounded like Rice Krispies in my arm when she moved it around, and I said OW a couple times, too!

We gave the EBI Machines to the patients while they were in the hospital. That way the insurance co or Medicare paid for them.

An update. I am still stubborn. Still doing my therapy at home. Still working. Still hurting occasionally, sometimes frequently. My surgeon and I have come to an agreement, on my terms. When I can no longer lift a glass of wine or cup of coffee to my lips, I will call him.

He laughed as he saw me in a pub lifting a beer with my left arm! We both laughed.

My biggest concern, I will be forced to retire. Herself and my three Golden Retrievers are not ready for my presence 24/7. Nor am I.

I'll bet it been a long year and a quarter. Don't know what you do or how you did it but I'm guessing it wasn't throwing curve ball in the Majors. Tough choices between a change of lifestyle or living with pain. Can't offer much but the hope you find the solution.

Going in next Friday for a CT arthrogram with dye on left shoulder. Dr wondering if I tore it again. Rotator cuff surgery back a few years ago. Pain isnt constant but enough at certain times, cant sleep on it either. Really dont want to repeat surgery, what a process. I wish you the best, I keep saying dont get old!!!!

I had a torn rotator cuff, torn labrum, and bicep tendon relocation done on December 6th and am finally feeling better than before the surgery. It’s a long recovery but worth it in my opinion. Good luck!

Rotator cuff...........

I've torn both rotator cuffs, first one was a medium to large tear the second a complete tear off. Recovery and PT for the first was no too bad, the complete tear off the surgeon had me do PT prior to surgery. Sent home with a cold water pump, first 8 weeks of PT was passive the therapist stretched my shoulder till he saw tears roll down my cheek it was moderately painful. Second 8 weeks was pretty normal exercises both with the therapist and at home. Surgeon told me that I was now Humpty Dumpty, no possibility of repair if I tore again. So I'm very careful although I've been able to return to normal activities, I no longer do any heavy lifting though.

The pain is not constant. It comes and goes when I do stupid things. The ache is constant. Constant, but for now, tolerable.

Good luck Kevin, don’t let it go tooo long. The whole thing may take longer to cure and recover. Larry

Get it fixed as soon as you can. Remember we are getting older now and it takes longer to heal!

If it was only the cuff, no problem. The problem is there is an artificial shoulder on the side. They want to replace it at the same time. There is a very good chance that could end my career. Not ready to sit home.

Kevin,

As the saying goes "grin and bear it for as long as you can". Wish you the best!

Tore my left rotator 5 years ago, had surgery, and was doing well ...then I decided to rake pine cones and needles about 5 weeks into recovery. I tore it,again, then had a second surgery. Surgeon told me to rehab and let it heal, I won't be able to repair it a third time. Lesson learned, but still have occasional mild shoulder pain at times today. Good luck, and do what the doc's tell you !
