I bought this 3" 64-3 about 18 months ago, but some reason I never noticed this scribe before. Any ideas as to what TPD is?

It's a bobbed hammer that still has the SA sear.

The SN prefix is ACV, which my 3rd edition doesn't list, but looks like it should be around '83.

Tulsa, Toledo, Teterboro,Troy,Taos,Temecula, Tallahassee, could be just about anywhere. Geography sometimes helps at times used guns stay close to the first owner, then again they have jumped all across the country.
Factory letter might indicate the purchasing agency but the department may have purchased from a LE Distributor.
Any chance of tracking back through previous owners?

Good luck .

Someone here on the forum may have another one with same mark that has knowledge of the original agency..

Agreed, most likely an LE marking. Nice that they hid it under the stock panel.

The "187" was also scratched in; TPD187. Probably a fair size department.

TPD 187 - Very good chance that your 64 was from the Trenton, NJ Police Department. There were some detectives that carried them and I remember being offered to purchase one as we were transitioning over to Glocks. Sure wish I had! I don't remember them having bobbed hammers but who knows, may have been . I will attempt to dig out a old roster and see if #187 correlates to one of the detectives working at the time.
May I ask what part of the country you purchased the revolver from?
In any event, good buy and good luck with it!

It could be Topeka, KS PD. I worked as a deputy sheriff for Shawnee County, where Topeka, the state capitol, is located. When I started we carried stainless K frame model 66. There are many places it could be from though.

Yes, if the OP stated whet state he lives in,
that might help.

How about Florida and the Tampa PD?

I don't think it is a Tallahassee PD gun. I have worked there for 25 years. That number would be a lieutenant and I can't think of anyone that carried a 64

I had a 65 from the Toledo, Ohio PD. It was stamped on the side just under the cylinder.

I don't believe it was a Topeka PD issue but I may be mistaken.

Before I started there they carried the Model 66 and I don't recall anyone speaking about a 64 or any 3 inch revolvers being issued. But like I said I could be mistaken.

I'm in North Texas but I bought it on GB. Now I have to track down the seller.

Ok, tracked down the dealer. They're in Jeffersontown Kentucky.
