Uniform Hat/Cap

My mother was a nurse. I remember in the 70s always seeing her nurse's cap, starched to a tee and plastered on the front of the washing machine to dry flat. It was a required part of the uniform. By the time she retired in the late 90s nurses' caps had all but disappeared. Uniforms evolve and standards change. It didn't affect the professionalism of the nurses.
My mother was of that era. About ten years ago the restaurant table next to us included a young woman in the old whites and cap. Mom was going on about how inappropriate it was to wear the cap outside the hospital until I told her they were actors from the theater next door. That made it worse.

I think Hill Street Blues damaged the uniformity in uniforms. Life imitated art. Once you let a guy out of the station in a Waylon Jennings hat it's all downhill. Darn actors again. 😁

It ceased when grooming standards went away for the most part.

Have you seen the scruffy beards that are now allowed in the military?

Then there's LE. With all the tattoos, beards and grossly overweight folks, it makes me wonder if there are grooming standards much less physical fitness standards.

Everything gets sloppy when there's no pride.

I'm just a casual observer, my opinion is meaningless.
Don't get me started. I'm a defensive tactics instructor even at my age..... One of the "big" guys said that won't work on me. I took him to the ground. He came over later and said "what should I do if I wind up on the ground with a perp?" I said lay on him and call for backup because you're too fat to get back up. Our official hat is a black stetson but a baseball cap or watch cap is also OK. Chief is constantly yelling at guys for sloppy appearance. But the pay stinks and the job is thankless.

All my time in the Navy, we wore our combination covers squared away. Now our "overseas" cover ("P*ss Cutter) in the Brown Shoe, Aviation Navy were worn Blue Angles style; fore end two fingers above your RayBans and the stern end crushed in the back.

Agreed. Not very apropos for the rank. The 9 ribbons is pretty sad for a person of that age, too.
There was a time when ribbons were not handed out for everything under the sun.

Perhaps Admiral Nimitz earned his paltry few ribbons?

The cop with the bun looks like England, perhaps the Met? The sheriff's department for the county I live in also recently adopted cowboy hats. I've only seen deputies wearing them at parades and such other festivals.
