US Postal Service not a Government job?

"I guess it depends on your definition of "work" If it means a full day's work for a full day's pay, then the post office...and most gov't employees are exempt."

I find your statement very offensive. I have worked for the USPS twenty- four years and it has more than gotten it's share of work out of me and most everyone I have ever worked with. The majority of us earn every dime we take home and give up our lunch and break time to try and get done A.S.A.P. Still, we make few people, be they customers or upper management, happy.

My wife is a county library employee who has gone without a pay increase for three years and will likely endure furloughs this coming year. Those 250+ employees would disagree with you as well.

I was making a big pot of chicken and rice soup Sunday after church, when the dog went crazy, which is an indication that someone or something is in the yard. I look up and see a red pickup truck in our driveway (we live 160 yards off the main road). Of course, Jackson and I go outside to see who it is, and it is our mail lady. She got out and walked up to me with a box in her hand. She said that a truck that was supposed to come Saturday morning didn't get in until Sunday morning, and she wanted all the express packages on her route to be delivered ASAP...and she hoped we didn't mind her coming by to deliver it.
My wife was thrilled. I was thrilled.
It is always a sin to paint a group of people with a broad brush....She was working on Sunday delivering express mail.
That is what I call service

Hmmm..LEO is a government employee. lol
And I was a government employee for 32 years before my retirement.

True...but I'm a reserve so I work for free...btw, I didn't mean to offend anyone here who works for the USPS or the gov't...I'm sure anyone on this forum did their job with honor and pride....I was just joking, although if you ever visited a Los Angeles Ca. post office, you might not laugh...:)

sipowicz,

You're not necessarily off the mark. A while back I wanted to ship a handgun via USPS and went to three post office "offices" to get an answer.

First one was helpful and employees friendly, but not knowledgeable enough on the rules.

Second one was staffed by ONE lady who was told that morning, after she showed up for work, that she would be working ALONE for the whole day. She said she had called the main office for help and was told, "Ain't comin'". She was overworked but professional, however no help to me because she was also not knowledgeable enough on the rules.

Then I went to the main office in town, to the people who are SUPPOSED to know it ALL. They knew less than the others, but they professed to know it all, they did not want to help me but they allowed me to use their office computers to look up the regulations for myself. One lady did, belatedly, assist me. Then I reported to them the dilemma of the lady working by herself, I was basically told, "That's her problem."

I saw ATC's in my career that ALWAYS went the extra effort for the flying public, I saw ATC's that were so lazy there were a true hazard to aviation safety.

We see that in the civilian world too, but it's easier to discipline and fire them if necessary.

That just pretty darn well does it. I am a retired federal employee as well as retired Navy. I would certainly like to know where the heck you were during Gulf War One and the present conflict. I know what I was doing. Although I was not deployed I was making sure that food shipments made it to the planes on time to be shipped to Saudi so our troops would be eating something other than MRE's every now and then. I was retired from Navy by the time of the current war and was Civil Service , but I can assure that plenty of those "non full day government employees" like me worked and are continuing to work 12 and 16 hour days supporting our troops. In fact I know several who have deployed and are deployed to the sandbox as CIVILIAN EMPLOYEES.

And we've received such support form Hollywierd, who usually manages to portray all of us, military and civilian, as psychopaths.

And yeah, the Post Office is pretty fun to poke fun at. I remember them dealing with anthrax threats and then everybody loved them. Since you're so smart, why don't you do a reality show? You could schlep a 40 pound mailbag on your back for a couple of weeks.

You, Sir, crossed a line.
