I think you have a FBI pistol.
If S&W sent them out in batches I have a confirmed FBI 1076 that is very close to your serial number... Like really close.
Welcome to the group and we know you will try to help her anyway you can in the future.

I did a lot of research before I sent the paperwork off, and I am pretty sure I do too....I just wanted to make 100% sure...
How far off of mine is yours?

I took a chance on my pistol because there was a confirmed FBI pistol that was 7 digits from my 1076 on this S&W forum posted a few years ago.

I see you are in Louisiana. I was an agent in the New Orleans office of the FBI when the discontinued 1076s were offered to agents with the stipulation they could never be approved as duty weapons. $300 got you the gun and two mags in the original box.

I had an FFL (which S&W required) so I became the 1076 guy for the office. I collected the dough from everyone who wanted one - agents, cops, clerks, everybody. I sent in a big envelope with my FFL and a motley collection of checks, cash, and money orders.

One day the mailroom called me and said to come to the loading dock. There was a whole big ol’ pallet of 1076s there. I spent the next two days doling out guns and trying to get 4473s back. Some were for guys all over the state.

I think New Orleans has a pretty high ratio of 1076s to the general population. I’d be interested if the letter shows it was shipped to me.

I got my 1076 letters! They offered me a different format and didn't include all the info about the other 10mm models. It includes shipping info to the FBI and return back to The Mother Ship and then showed they were sold back to unnamed FBI agents. They also included a copy of what they see on the SWHF computer.
I want to thank the SWHF for this great service!

I got mine today too...it was shipped nov 13 1990 to Quantico. S&W bought it back and performed the "2 dot" repair, and then sold to another officer..
I only got the letter, I didn't get any extra paperwork.

I have a friend who got a gun safe from a guy wanting to get rid of it. Turns out there were GUNS IN IT. When he told the guy he would give them back, he said, "Naw, just keep 'em." I know there was a 22-250 in there and several others.
