Was this a good deal?

There's no penance for this-none. I would have had to go to Fantasy Island to get half that deal.:( that's like someone finding a NIB Python for $500.

uuuhh....I stand guilty as charged. But the $500 for a NIB Python happened in 1998, not 2010. The Python in question is a 8" Python Target in .38 Special with Nickel finish. It is still NIB today.

I also picked up a 6" stainless Python in .357 from the same guy on the same day for $600 that had been fired. I shoot it occasionally.

Congrats to the OP for getting a fantastic deal!

No, it's not a good deal. A good deal is one that's fair to both parties.

Unless he knows the value and flat out refuses a fair price, I would not do that to a neighbor.

That is unless I saw him leaving my house by the bedroom window.

that would be a hard deal to turn down, but it would almost make me wonder if it was stolen. Unless I personally knew the seller (and with a deal like this, even if I did) I think I'd have insisted on a signed bill of sale with driver's license or CWL info.

I cannot imagine the owner of a 2000 era Model 686 not knowing how much he paid for this thing . . . or how much he had to pay for the gun from someone else.

Either he got screwed . . . or you did.

If that gun is hot the joke may be on you.

Well,...

Last year, fella comes up to me in the shop, with a plastic Wally World bag under his arm. Lays it on the counter, and says his now-ex wife/bitchosaurus gave it to him, and he wanted it out of his life. Colt 1991A1 in a new leather shoulder rig, and three factory mags. Price, $100.00.
I was happy, he was happy, a true 'good deal'!
