586-6 Just what do the - number mean? I assume its the next version or run of the model. I just picked up a 586-6 4" barrel, Like new, barely a ring or mark on the cylinder, w/box for $450, which also included 2 boxes of 50, .38Spec and 1 full and one part box(38 rounds loaded plus empty brass) of Winchester X .357 Mag. Did I do good or not. I had come close to buying the M-28 LE roll stamped with the Montgomery PD for $1200, but y'all talked me out of it and I am glad y'all did. This was only about 1/3rd the price of that M-28, now I have $$$ left for powder/brass/bullets and primers and dies for this .357 mag

that's the gun i USED to have many years ago, no dash, although mine was nickel 6 shot with beautiful finger grip rosewood. would love to find one like that again, it was an admirable piece. Your's is quite stunning in it's own right! love it.

Here are mine:

586 no dash 6" barrel, with a 7 shot titanium cylinder in 38 spl, to make it 100% legal here in down south.

The 4" is a 586-1, whit the "M" mark on it; it looks abused but locks tight. I am going to have it finished in QPQ and install arhends grips on it, and of course a 7 shot titanium cylinder too.

I've shooting S&W revolvers all my life (J, K and N frame); but the size of the L frame was instant and true love! For me its the best frame size for a revolver.

SmithNut...... saw the pictures of your 4 inch 586 round butts........they are only other 4" factory round butt 586s I've ever seen..... I have a -4, CADxxxx .... which I'm dating to 1996.

It was a "gun show save"...LNIB but had round to square rubber grips on them. Didn't need another 586 but the gun was in such good shape; decided to take a closer look. Asked the dealer to pull the grips to check for rust..... was shocked to see the round butt......a 2007 find....$350.

Like you I love Spegel Boot grips..... my 586 round butt now has Spegel Extended Boot Grips in Birdseye maple....

All but my first 686 were ...... guns traded for autos in the late 90s to early 2000s...... around here586-686s were the red headed step-child no one wanted and dealers sold cheep ($300- <400) to move them! Now hard to touch one for less than $600.
