This board is Pro NRA.

That is written into our Sticky: Terms of Service:

WE ARE PRO NRA
We support The National Rifle Association. We believe The NRA is the biggest and best dog in the fight to protect gun rights and the Second Amendment. You may not believe that, but this board is not your platform for NRA bashing.
In plain terms: NRA bashing is NOT allowed. Take it somewhere else.
That’s pretty plain.

Just as-
I do not have to provide a platform for ISIS to tell us how evil America is, and
I do not have to provide a platform for anti-gunners to tell us how evil guns are, and
I do not have to provide a platform for political parties to campaign and espouse their views,
I do not have to provide a platform for bashing the NRA, or even retarding the growth of the NRA.

I’m not telling you can’t belong to Gun Owners of America or the Second Amendment Foundation.
Go for it, but don't come here and tell people to forget the NRA and join those organizations.

I provide a platform for two purposes:
Discussion of all things S&W.
Protection of the 2nd Amendment. The NRA is the toughest opponent of the anti gunners.

Obviously, the NRA is losing financial support as various companies disassociate themselves from the NRA.
That will hurt in the coming months, and in the ongoing fight to preserve the 2nd.
I believe we will be facing more encroachments on the 2A, and it takes money to fight that.

We try to help grow membership and we encourage financial support for them.
So, no, I will not be providing a platform for slowing the growth of the NRA.

I have chosen my side, and I'm playing to win. When the fight is over and the smoke clears, we can work toward improving the NRA. That is, if we still have a 2A and there is any need for an NRA.
Now is not the time for NRA members and gun owners to bicker among themselves. The antis will love seeing that. They know a house divided will not stand.
Now is the time to support the NRA, and hope and pray we can preserve the 2A.

If that offends anyone's idea of the 1st Amendment and Freedom of Speech, I'll say again what I said years ago here-

A Note on Freedom of Speech
which says:

We hear a lot about "MY Freedom of Speech can't be restricted!!!"

Some people seem to be unaware that Freedom of Speech is limited in many ways, every day.
If you are not aware of that, you can test it by walking into any courtroom tomorrow when court is in session and start giving a speech. Ignore the silly judge telling you to be quiet.
Try giving a speech from the balcony in the Senate chamber of your State capital while they are in session. Tell the Security types that you have Freedom of Speech.
Those buildings are owned by ‘the people’, aren’t they?
So, how can they limit your Freedom of Speech?

You can also try it on private property.
Jump onto a table in a restaurant and speak or preach away.
Enter a private clinic and tell them you’ll be speaking all day about your views on morality and religion.
Ask local churches if they plan on giving equal time to speakers for a totally different religion, or worshipers of Satan, or Wicca.

Since you believe in Freedom of Speech, do you adhere to the principle in your own home?
Do you allow anyone who rings your doorbell in to speak about political parties or ideologies or religions different from your own beliefs?
If not, are you violating THEIR freedom of speech?

You may be getting it by now-
This board is privately owned property that is made available for free public use within our Rules, Terms of Service (TOS), and guidelines.
Everyone who registers here has agreed to be bound by all of those.
That means we have the right to forbid, limit, or restrict certain topics, crude language as defined by us, and types of behavior.

You have the right not to post here if you disagree with those Rules, TOS, or guidelines.
You have the right to be somewhere else.
We have no desire to limit your freedom of speech otherwise.
Pick any street corner and have at it.
Rent a billboard.
Start your own forum.
Rent radio time.

If any of the above will not work for you, I bid you Godspeed.

What always amazes me in times like these is don’t the folks howling for a repeal of the Second Amedment—or it so restricted to render it meaningless—realize that ANY other amendment could be next?

Even if you are not a shooter, even if you hate guns, do you like free speech? Freedom to assemble? A free press? Freedom to believe in what you want? All the beautiful freedoms that make this country what it is? When one freedom can be taken, they all are in danger.

For what it's worth, I take issue with people who find a reason not to join! NO organization including the NRA is perfect and they do make mistakes, let things slip through the cracks and are not always successful at everything they do. The BOTTOM LINE here is if you like guns, reloading, shooting of any kind and are not a member it is my opinion you are helping the other side take away our guns, rights and hobby. Love them or not, they are pretty much the ONLY organization fighting for US!

I am not new to urging gun owners to join and it's never been as critical as right now, so if you are not a member, NOW is the time to rectify that!

Lee,

You are a compelling guy. The rest of you, too.

Earlier this week Lee -- without trying, really -- convinced me to join the SWCA.

Now Lee and you others have convinced me to join the NRA.

I've never been an opponent; but I've simply never been a joiner.

I'm beyond that.

Soon you'll see the SWCA and NRA banners alongside my Air Force wings. Yes, yes, I joined the 'Force, but for a far different reason so don't go there.

I've told many an opponent, "I gave 28 years of my life defending your freedom of speech. I simultaneously was defending mine."

I'm with ya', not agin' ya'.

Cheers,

In the last year and a half I’ve gone from a yearly member to Life, Endowment, and now Patron. Have also made a few contributions to NRA- ILA. Will be going Benefactor level soon.
No, they’re not perfect, but I feel an immense debt of gratitude for what they’ve done, especially in the last few years.

I am the NRA, you should be the NRA too. The NRA is an organization that promotes protection of our Second Amendment as well as firearms competition, gun safety training, law enforcement training, hunting, collecting and everything else related to our firearms heritage.

Hertz and the rest of the corporate cowards can cut and run, we as an organization will be just fine and will find other businesses to take our hard earned money. You can bet I'll never give these businesses a penny ever again.

I've been a gun owner since I turned 12. The gun grabbers can wring their hands and nash their teeth but I'm not giving up my guns. I'll work with the NRA to protect them like I've been doing the last 40 or so years.

Need Help, Brain Lock

I'm having a difficult time coming up with a specific organization more dedicated to protecting the rights of the individual, gun owner or not, than the NRA.

I'm reminded just a bit of a parallel. A recent debate in my hometown resulted in the renaming of 3 streets, contention being the men were advocates of slavery or the KKK. Much heated debate and rhetoric from both sides almost guaranteed the result and although two commissioners realized the short sighted outlook and the scope of this decision their votes were not enough to prevent the renaming.
One wondered where it would end, the other was in favor of numbering all the streets.
During the debate I failed to hear discussed one line of reasoning. Was the tipping point for the War Between the States the slavery issue? I believe so. Was it the underlying cause? I believe not, the issue was the preservation of each state or commonwealth's autonomy against an overreaching federal government.

The NRA's immediate goal is to keep firearms in the hands of the citizenry but the long term fight must be to keep an individual's freedom of choice and personal responsibility for their own actions and the safety of their loved ones in their own hands.

I can't think of any organization so dedicated to such a simple concept that affects everyone in the nation.
Or am I so simple I'm missing the obvious?

There isn't an organization on the face of the planet that doesn't have flaws. I defy anyone to name one. However, sometimes what those on the outside perceive to be flaws have valid reasons for being, should one know those reasons. In any event, the way to correct what one believes is a flaw is by working from within. Doing so will often expose why things are the way they are and lead to an understanding that while we may not like somethings, at least we know why they are that way. Standing outside and throwing rocks is easy but destructive. In the end, it causes more damage than is often intended, destroying the organization or at minimum, causing irreparable harm. When you join the legions of those throwing rocks, you also are apart of those who wish to destroy that organization, not just change it.

The enemy never sleeps, do what you can, when you can wherever you can. This may be a historical time for us and for our country, there are powerful forces at work and many sheep who are naive and easily mislead. I don’t want to sound like I am shouting out that the sky is falling but the clouds are pretty low it seems.

How do you even define a "perfect" organization? The cold hard facts are that the NRA has the needed political clout to protect our rights because Wayne LaPierre can tell a legislator that he speaks for 4,000,000 DUES PAYING members. And you can probably figure that people who come up with the cash are going to be a lot more attentive to any attempt to diminish our rights. Elections have been decided by a lot fewer votes.

And please register to vote if you are not already registered. Our votes matter. Back in 1994 we made a lot of Congressmen pay a political price by voting them out after they put in the Assault Weapons Ban, so many that President Clinton had to acknowledge it publicly. And remember the 2000 election of George W. Bush against Al Gore. Bush won Florida by only 539 votes out of 3.5 million votes cast, which gave Florida's Electoral College votes to Bush and gave Bush the election over Al Gore. I'll leave the implications of the alternative situation to you to think about.
