Did anyone notice anything of substance? I haven't seen a comprehensive list of the 23 executive actions that were mentioned, but I heard nothing that would specifically lay any kind of immediate burden on gun owners right now. No bans, no limits, etc. It sounded to me like he kicked it to Congress, asking for an AWB and limits on magazines and universal background checks. l really figured he was going to really push the envelope of executive authority. Maybe I missed something. Maybe more is coming.

I believe if I were a Bradyite or any other kind of banner group I would be scratching my head and wondering "Is that all?"

The fears that the president would abuse his executive powers to bypass congress were highly exaggerated. Instead, he seems to have implemented some fundamental things that are reasonable in my view. will they work? Who knows but he is passing the buck to the legislative branches, your Congressmen and Senators, to ban magazines, assault weapons, etc. I think this is fair as they represent our direct voices in government.

Looks like Jagular beat me to the punch. I also have to agree with his response. The EO's he signed today make sense and I can get behind them. I am still 50/50 on requiring background checks for private sales. First, how will this be enforced? Second, how will it stop those who don't care (irresponsible owners and sellers) in the first place what type of person is privately buying a firearm from them?

Looks like he passed the buck to congress to try and do something about "assault" style weapons. I hope congress takes the logical approach and does not put into law any type of ban on weapons and magazine capacity limits.

I know that the majority here read how the President signed a law giving him, GW, and all future presidents lifetime secret service protection. I am going to assume that their secret service detail have, not only AR type rifles, but fully automatic rifles on their detail. Even though ex-presidents are more high profile and have their lives threatened on a daily basis; how are their lives any more important than ours, an every day American's? He obviously knows that society is not perfect and there will always be a threat; which is why he signed this into law.

I am not arguing against this law. But since we, every day citizens, cannot obviously afford a 24/7 protection detail for ourselves and our families, do not limit our ability to protect our lives and the lives of our families as we see fit.

I didn't hear the word "grandfathered" on the AR's.

I suspect that such wording will be left to the legislative branch to take all of the heat. It is imperative for all of us to contact our Representatives and Senators to make sure they stand firm on the Second Amendment. Nothing in the EO, in my opinion, are impeachable offenses conflicting with the 2nd Amendment. Others, maybe, but not 2nd.

Anyone else think it looks fishy what just happened?

Well, I don't like how he used the children on stage as a prop. I really think he is being all talk on an "assault" weapon ban and magazine capacity limits. He is just trying to get ppl on the other side off his back and act like he is trying to do something about it. I really hope congress takes logical steps and realize a ban and magazine size limits will not change anything.

I like #18:
"Provide incentives for schools to hire school resource officers."

So apparently having armed security in our schools is a good idea. haha

So 7 rounds in NY and looking like 10 in other places. Will the limit the number of guns that can be carried? One strong side one cross draw one small of back one each ankle and maybe a dual shoulder holster. Lets see if my math is correct, that's 49 rounds in NY and 70 in a 10 round magazine state. Yep, I will sleep well tonight knowing my government has me well protected.

How is it fishy? I just think we were lead to think that the president would use his executive powers in an abusive way. It seems that is not the case. I, for one, am relieved and more hopeful of a logical response to any gun control initiatives.

These executive orders are laying the ground work for a national registry. Look again. Look closely at what is written. Why are all these "health" issues included in these orders? Why did he need to clarify what doctors can ask (see#16)?

I'm extremely unhappy with this. He needs to be removed. To think that he can use an executive order to dictate what citizens of the US can or cannot do is far beyond the authority of the president.

I think ALL the letters and opinions being expressed to

legislators IS being heard by the President and his Staff.

Many in State Houses and The Congress are starting to have their

FILL OF STATES RIGHTS INFRINGEMENTS

The Silent Majority is BECOMING MORE VOCAL.

I would like to see the violent video game issue addressed. Have you ever seen Grand Theft Auto? Take a kid with no social skills and park him in front of a video game like that for a couple years and when he finally realizes he's a loser look out. That to me is a bigger problem than an extra couple rounds in a magazine.

I am not that relieved Jag.

Yes I am glad it is not trying for martial law and confiscation.
I believe if they thought they could get it , they would do it however.

But all of this costs money. And a big list of things and objectives like that dont get accomplished anyway.

I am sure he felt some heat and the backlash coming some here.

One thing they ARE going to try to do is make this a 2014 issue and get more Dems in. Who would vote for much worse measures. I would not trust them at ALL and if anyone does it is at their peril.

I am not a Gun crazy. I am from Texas and I hated the GWB homeland defense ramp up and the cost of that. And the airline mess. There were common sense ways to handle it - but with the outcry for " The Government to do something ...." all of that got kicked out and bureaucracy building began. Waste even more time and money.

Obama is eyeing the Supreme Court composition too dont kid yourself. For now and for his appointments in the future. It will not be good.

He also KNOWS, as does Congress, what happened in the Clinton mid terms for the same guns reasons.

So expect more problems and more interference. Especially if you are in one of the states bent on that now.

Why would you park your loser kid in front of a video game like that? Is it the game's fault or your fault at that point?

I don't mind the EOs aside from the doctors getting to know what you're packing.

Congress will take care of the rest, I don't think they will go for the 10 round mag limits or the AWB ban. I can see the ammo limitations passing though.

Seems to me all he did was sign some **** that will cost us, as taxpayers, more money running up the national debt.

I don't park my kids in front of anything but kids have a way of getting these things and I can't think of any valid reason to have a kids game that glorifies shooting at hookers and police with blood spurting all over the screen.

Clinton was famous for floating out trial balloons to gauge public reaction. I suspect these Obama EO's are much the same. I have no doubt that this guy will attempt anything he thinks he can pull off; constitutional or not.
